PERFECT!
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Nov.07, 2009, under Football
It began with a Webb Williams 45 yd. field goal. It ended with the award winning Clark Cougar Band playing Queen’s “We Are the Champions”. In between it was pure joy as the Clark Cougar varsity football team headed into the post season with a win over the Holmes Huskies and a District 28-5A Championship . It is Clark’s 22nd year of playoff football.
CLARK TRICKS TAFT, TREATS THEM TO LOSS
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Oct.31, 2009, under Football
The Clark Cougar varsity football team got their Halloween scare early courtesy the Taft Raiders but were eventually treated to a 23-15 win and at least a share of the District 28-5A title.
On the opening drive, Taft took a page out of the Clark playbook and drove 72 yards for the first score of the game, giving them a 7-0 lead and taking seven and a half minutes off the clock. On the first Clark possession, a turnover on the second play was one of only five offensive plays in the 1st quarter by Clark, including a punt.
The second quarter was a thriller by itself. Glenn Bonner delivered a crushing sack, a Hayden Greenbauer punt that was clearly out of bounds on the Taft 2 yd. line wasn’t near as clear to the referee standing inches from it who called a touch back, a Clark defensive stop was negated by an unsportsmanlike penalty, and the offense went back to good ol’ smash mouth football behind Greenbauer and Tevin Glasgow. The drive ended as time ran out on a field goal attempt. At the half, Taft still led 7-0.
The 3rd qtr. was a treat for Cougar fans. Hayden Greenbauer hit Jacob Garcia in stride 41 yds. downfield for a 82 yd. touchdown pass. With 32 seconds left in the quarter, Greenbauer bootlegged another 30 yds. for the next Clark score, giving the Cougars a 14-7 lead. Following a Webb Williams kickoff, the Taft receiver was met in the end zone by Ryan Flournoy and Daniel Durke (that’s pronounced DIRK!, Mr. NISD announcer) for a safety, giving the Cougars a 16-7 lead going into the 4th. COUGARS FEAST ON RAM CHOPS
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Sep.27, 2009, under Football
With a 4-0 record, the Cougars made sure they were not one of the weekend upsets, blowing out the Marshall Rams in a 41-7 victory. Both the offense and defense dominated early, allowing 2nd units for both to come in and see action with three minutes left in the first half.
Marshall received the opening kickoff and drove into Clark territory but Jacob Garcia made his second interception of the year to give the Cougars the ball on the Clark 18 early in the first quarter. The Cougars would then drive the field, ending in a Ryan Jones 3 yd. rushing TD with 8:41 left in the 1st quarter. It would be the first of two in the 1st quarter for Jones, as he ran again for a 7 yd. TD with 2:08 left in the quarter.
With the defense taking control of the Marshall offense, the Cougars would get the ball back and would score again early in the 2nd quarter, set up by a 20 yd. run by Joey Cammer. Hayden Greenbauer added another 28 yds. on the same drive to set up a 6 yd. TD by Greenbauer with 7:46 in the 2nd quarter. On the following Marshall possession, Ryan Flournoy would get his 1st interception of the season along with a nice run after the catch. Jones would be called on once again, this time for 26 yds. and a TD giving the Cougars a 27-0 lead in the 2nd quarter. Andrew Mire picked off a Marshall pass in the end zone and Tevin Glasgow would add one more score before the half on a spectacular 63 yd. dash to the end zone, giving the Cougars a 34-0 lead at halftime.

by envisionfilmvideo.com on Aug.31, 2009, under Football
The Clark Cougar varsity football team, with a first game domination of the Churchill Chargers in a 27-0 win, impressed local and statewide media. The Express News moved them from a #4 preseason ranking to #3. KSAT 12 moved the Cougars from #5 to #3, and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football was impressed enough to move the Cougars from #16 in the state of Texas to # 13.
COUGARS COMPETE AT REGIONAL TRACK MEET
by envisionfilmvideo.com on May.17, 2009, under Track and Field
Clark’s varsity track season ended with the Region IV track meet held Friday and Saturday at Alamo Stadium. Shantel Swift and Hayden Greenbauer highlighted individual accomplishments in the finals with Shantel taking 4th place in the girls 800M, while Hayden did the same in the boys 110M hurdles. The girls 1600M relay team also took 4th place. The boys 1600m relay team dropped almost 2 seconds to set a PR with several boys turning in their best splits ever, but fell just short of making the finals placing 9th overall (a significant improvement from their 18th place seeding prior to the meet).

Clark’s track athletes who qualified for Regionals traveled to Fredericksburg this Friday to participate in the Regional Qualifiers Track Meet. This meet acts as a warm-up to the Regional Track Meet on May 1st and 2nd. Gusty winds made for interesting times as sometimes they helped and other times they hindered. Clark’s Varsity girls and boys did well, with the following results.
