Top Golf Girls

Sophomore Avery Horton was the top ranked district golfer with a score of 80 and 87 at district. Sophomore teammate MacKenzie Walters was second with 91 and 81

Golf News

Despite the cold, rainy weather, golf season has started. The boys varsity golf team played in the Del Rio Invitational on
January 30-31st and won the tournament overall by defeating Brandeis, Smithson Valley and Laredo United in the final round. This was the first time that Clark has won this tournament since 2007!! Junior, Aaron Dobbs finished 4th individually with rounds of 80-75.

Go Golf Girls

Last week our girls varsity golf team played at the NISD Concan
Invitational. Mackenzie Walters led the team and finished
Tied for 27th as a medalist with rounds of 90-84.

The team, made up of senior Emily Stewart, sophomores Avery Horton, McKenzie
Kotara, and Mackezie Walters, finished tied for 16th out of 24 teams. The
tournament hosted teams from El Paso to Houston and our girls had a blast
and did a great job!

Congratulations to our defending District Champions! Our next tournament
will be at The Dominion Country Club on December 1st.

Lady Cougar Golf Dominates

The Lady Cougar Golf team competed in their District tournament last week and took 1st and 2nd places! Those advancing to the regional tournament are Madeline Claus, Madeline Diana, Caitlin Edwards Marissa Fallis, Avery Horton, Megan Johnson, Lindsey Keller, McKenzie Kotara, Emily Stewart, and MacKenzie Walters.

The girls will play a 2 round tourney on April 16th & 17th at the Shriner Golf Course in Kerrville.

GOLF TRYOUTS UNDERWAY

The Clark Cougar golf team, under first year head coach Chris Weil, is holding tryouts this week.  Twelve ladies played nine holes yesterday at Olmos and will play again Thursday at Brackenridge.  The guys will hit the course today and then join the ladies at Brackenridge tomorrow.  The teams start play shortly after tryouts in the next few days.  Enjoy these pictures from Ciara Clark of yesterday’s tryouts.

Athletic director and Head Coach Steve McGhee is welcoming new coaches to the Clark staff for the upcoming school year.  For the next few days, ClarkCougarSports.com will help introduce you to these new faces in the athletic department.  Today meet:

Chris Weil (Head Coach – Golf)

Education:
Winston Churchill High ’99
UTSA ’09 History degree
Prior Coaching Experience:
Prior 2 years as Assistant Golf Coach at O’Connor High
Sports played in HS:
Played golf at Churchill on 2 time State Championship team 1996/1997
College playing experience:
College Scholarship Central Alabama then Walk-on at UTSA
Pro experience:
Turned Pro 2001/Qualified through 2004 professional Q-School on Canadian Professional Golf Tour Full Exempt. Played on multiple professional tours (Tight Lies Tour, Nationwide Tour, and other mini-tours) until 2006.
