Durke ready for season

The Express News has ranked the Clark Cougars football team #10 in the city in its preseason rankings, to be released in a special Sunday edition.  Senior Daniel Durke receives accolades along with RB Ryan Jones , K Webb Williams and OL Tim Grona.

Lone Star Gridiron, a website, also offers a preview of the season along with some key numbers for fanatics of football.

Garcia using his feet here, voice in locker room

Senior Jacob Garcia is using his defensive skills and his “gift of gab” to help lead the Clark soccer team to their best season ever.  Read more about this three sport varsity athlete in a great article in today’s Express News.

All Area/District teams announced

Several Clark Cougars from this year’s fall athletic seasons were peppered throughout the Express-News’ annual recognitions of local players.  28-5A All District Teams were also named in volleyball (Clark football All District awards were released earlier and can be found here). Complete lists can be found here.

Congratulations to each on their individual accolades and representing Tom C. Clark High School in the stadiums, gyms and fields.

The varsity football team finished #2 in the area rankings after a 13-1 season which took them to the state quarterfinals.  They were #1 in the KSAT 12 rankings and #10 in the Associated Press (AP) rankings.

Defense denies Chargers credit

The Clark Cougar varsity football team, with a first game domination of the Churchill Chargers in a 27-0 win, impressed local and statewide media.  The Express News moved them from a #4 preseason ranking to #3.  KSAT 12 moved the Cougars from #5 to #3, and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football was impressed enough to move the Cougars from #16 in the state of Texas to # 13.

While ClarkCougarSports.com appreciates the times that someone at the Express News recognizes Clark High School and their athletes and readily reports such rare events, is there a bias against the school in Clark, Texas?  Probably not but here’s an interesting one – in the final boys soccer rankings Clark is not ranked but Highlands High School is #10.  Highlands finished 3rd in their district BEHIND second place Corpus Christi King – who Clark WHIPPED 4-0.  We’re just saying…

Elhad Emerllahu

If you haven’t had a chance, be sure to read the front page of the January 15th edition of the San Antonio Express News for a story on Clark Varsity Basketball junior Elhad Emerllahu.  The team’s leading scorer has had a long journey from his native Kosovo to help lead the men’s team to a #4 city ranking.

Anna Drewry was named to the 2008 Express News Super Team as well as All District for 28-5A in volleyball. The Purdue-bound senior adds another award to her spectacular career at Clark.  Congratulations and read more about her here.
