When the San Antonio Spurs take on the Indiana Pacers on Jan. 20th at the AT&T Center, they won’t be the only winners in the building.  This year’s Clark  Cougar Varsity football team will be recognized in a brief ceremony before the game. The 2008 Cougars went 13-2, a Clark best record and made it all the way to the Texas 5A State Semifinals.

5ATexasfootball.com, a popular website and forum for fans of Texas High School Football, has released its All Texas teams for the past season.  Compiled by a list of nominations from website members and forum readers, the website recognized the following Clark varsity football players and coach:

Region 4 Coach of the Year:  Lloyd Alexander

First Team Offense: Jock Tilghman – Running Back

Second Team Offense: Robert Chapman – Center

Second Team Defense:  Aaron Durke – Defensive Back

All-Junior Offense: Hayden Greenbauer – Athlete

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, the “bible” of all things Texas and football, has released its final Top 25 rankings for Texas High School Football.  A  13-2 season and a first-ever trip to the state semifinals earned the 2008 edition of the Clark Cougars a #9 ranking.  Clark was the top ranked team for Region 4 which includes Smithson Valley (#10), SA Reagan (#14) and Austin Westlake (#17).

The Cougars were not ranked in the poll prior to the start of the season.  No other San Antonio area team made the list.

More awards roll in for the 2008 Clark Cougars Varsity Football Team.  In a citywide online poll taken by KSAT-TV, the ABC affiliate, over half of the voters selected Jock Tilghman as the Offensive Player of the Year.  Voters also selected Clark as the Team of the Year and Head Coach Lloyd Alexander as the Coach of the Year.  Congratulations on these well deserved honors.

The Express News and District 28-5A named their Area and District teams.  Clark had several players named including:

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jock Tilghman

• 1st Team Offense – Jock Tilghman, Hayden Greenbauer, Adair Campbell, Robert Chapman

• 2nd Team Defense – Greg Castro, Neal Larson, Kevin Ozment, Gilbert Mata, Joey Cammer, Joe Nichols

According to THSCA Pressbox Services (PRESSBOXSERVICES.COM), Clark’s Jock Tilghman is the leading rusher in 5A with 2,335 yds. for an 8.0 yd. avg.  Congratulations on a great year!

Wow! The AP 5A All State teams have been announced. Of the two Division 1 teams who played in the Region 3 vs. 4 state semi-final, only one player mentioned. He played for “them” and was on the 2nd team defense. Not a single San Antonio player named. Surprised?….
