Glenn Hill new coach at Churchill?

The Express News reports that Churchill will name Glenn Hill the new head football coach.  Hill, the brother of Smithson Valley coach Larry Hill, coached at Roosevelt from 1997-2005 and most recently has been at Caney Creek where he was 2-7 and 5-5 the past two years. Read more about Hill here.

CHURCHILL FOOTBALL COACH CHANGE

Carl Gustafson, head football coach at Churchill and a former assistant coach at Clark, is making a move to the administrative side. Gustafson was named NEISD’s interim assistant director for athletics. He has been head coach and athletic coordinator at Churchill for 10 years. His replacement may be named by April. Gustafson was a football assistant under coach Mike Robbins at Clark during the 1990’s.

LIFT-A-THON SUCCESS

The annual Lift-A-Thon, sponsored by the Clark Texas Football Club, was another huge success. The event played to a packed house of enthusiastic Cougar supporters.  The Lift-A-Thon, backed by individual and business sponsors, is the only fundraiser for Clark Cougar football and provides a good look at the strength of next season’s defending Regional Champions.  Several players exceeded their personal best records with  Juniors Greg Castro and Robert Chapman leading the way. Clark’s Top Cats dance team provided entertainment.

The state obsessed with football (not that there’s ANYTHING wrong with that) is already talking about next season.  Clark’s Robert Chapman is being discussed as one of the best offensive linemen in the state, according to readers of 5ATexasFootball.com.

LIFT-A-THON ENTERTAINMENT AND FUNDRAISER

Here is a “sneak peek” at a new video documenting the success of the 2008 Clark Cougars varsity football season.  It will be “premiered” at the annual Lift-A-Thon, a fundraiser for the varsity football team.  The cost is $15 and will be available for sale and proceeds will benefit varsity football.  Come on out Wednesday evening at 6:30pm  and cheer for the team and be entertained by the Top Cats’ performance.

CLARK FOOTBALL SIGNEES HEAD WEST

C. Smith, J. Tilghman sign with parents

Two seniors from the 2009 state semifinalists Clark Cougar football team will keep playing in college.  Jock Tilghman, the Texas Football 5A player of the Year, signed a National Letter of Intent to play for West Texas A&M in Canyon.  The leading rusher in 5A football this year, Jock plans to major in History.  His mother is  Bridgette Tilghman.  According to a press release from West Texas A&M, Coach Don Carthel is elated with this year’s class,  “Our incoming running backs may be the best we’ve seen. The running back position may just be the strongest position in this class”.

Cory Smith, a senior offensive lineman, also signed a National Letter of Intent.  He’ll be heading to Angelo State University.  Cory was a 1st team All District selection on this year’s team. The son of Victor and Kelly Smith, Cory plans to major in Physical Therapy.

The Head Coach of the Clark Cougars is Lloyd Alexander.

During the early signing period in the fall, senior Anna Drewry signed with Purdue to play volleyball.   A first-team all-district selection as a junior under coach Kristen Daniells, Drewry also is a three-year honor roll member and threw shot put and discus for the Clark track team the last two years. She plans on majoring in biology and animal sciences.

Jordan Brickman, signed to play basketball for Navy.  Kevin Hamilton is the head basketball coach for Clark.

Congratulations to the parents and their Clark athletes and good luck.

TEXAS SPORTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION RECOGNIZES CLARK PLAYERS

The Texas Sports Writers Association, whose members are sports writers and sports editors from daily and weekly newspapers from across the state of Texas as well as sports internet services, have announced their 2008 5A All-State teams.  Senior running back Jock Tilghman made the second team as well as senior Adair Campbell as a punter.  Campbell also made 3rd team as a tight end along with senior defensive back Aaron Durke.  Junior center Robert Chapman earned honorable mention honors.  The entire list can be found on the Dallas Morning News site.

The winter edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football is out and San Antonio Clark Cougar senior RB Jock Tilghman is the 5A Player of the Year.  The leading rusher in 5A is featured in the magazine and was also All-District and the San Antonio Express News’ Offfensive Player of the Year.

FOOTBALL HONORED BY SPURS

The San Antonio Spurs took time out of their pregame warmups to honor the 2008 Clark Cougar varsity football team in ceremonies at the AT&T Center.  Coach Alexander was presented with a plaque and the team was recognized moments before tipoff.  It was another award in a long list for the Texas 5A Division 1 state semifinalists.
