Chapman signs with UTSA

Clark senior center/deep snapper Robert Chapman has committed to sign with Coach Larry Coker and UTSA to play college football.  After being pursued by various colleges, Chapman will become a UTSA Roadrunner following his senior season at Clark.  Coker offered Chapman a 5 year deal where Robert will major in business, looking to earn an MBA from UTSA.  The son of Bill and Amy Chapman,  Robert’s decision was based on the coaching staff and “a value system that’s filled with integrity”, according to Bill.  Coker’s comment that “we’re giving D1 scholarships to get D1 players” also spoke to the seriousness of the program and where it’s headed and that also played a part in Robert’s decision. RB Jones on preseason list

Clark junior RB Ryan Jones has been named on another list from 5ATexasFootball.com released late yesterday.  Jones, who played behind Jock Tilghman on last year’s 13-2 varsity football team, continues to pop up on pre-season lists for the 2009 season.  Dave Campbell’s Texas Football also listed him as a player to watch in their annual report.  Ryan scored 6 TDs and rushed for over 400 yards as a sophomore.  Jones is competeing for the starting running back position for Clark.

HUGE START FOR 2009 FOOTBALL

First Snap Aug. 15th

The Clark Cougar varsity football team will kick off the season with a scrimmage against the Seguin Matadors on August 15, 2009 in Seguin.  Coach Lloyd Alexander and his staff will get an early peek at this year’s team against the Matadors, who went 2-8 last year.  Of particular interest will be the defensive matchup against Seguin OL Joseph Cheek, a 6’7″, 250 lb. junior who just verbally committed to play for Mike Sherman and Texas A&M.

The Clark Texas Football Club is holding its annual golf tournament on August 8th at Canyon Springs  Golf Club.  This group of former football athletes uses the proceeds from this event for the CTFC Scholarship fund.  Fore! more information, click here.

2008 Clark Cougars celebrate 20-16 victory over Churchill

This year’s Gucci Bowl will kick off a schedule of several Thursday night games airing live on television in San Antonio.  The only NISD game scheduled, the game will air on KMYS (Channel 35, Time Warner Channel 7).  You can get your tickets beginning August 10 at 6pm in the cafeteria for this always exciting rivalry.  It’s a game you don’t want to miss!

Congratulations to senior Clark Cougar Robert Chapman.  Not only successful on the field, the center/deep snapper for varsity football received a statewide award for his work in the classroom. Chapman made the third annual Pre Season All Academic Football Team for the state of Texas announced by Randy Rodgers and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.  Congratulations, Robert.

CLARK PRESEASON FAVORITES IN 28-5A

Clark has been pegged as the favorite to take the District 28-5A title this year by at least two Texas football prognosticators. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine ranks the Cougars at #16 in its statewide preseason poll and tops in the district. Texas Football joins the website 5ATexasfootball.com in predicting an offensive MVP season for quarterback Hayden Greenbauer. While 5ATexasfootball.com has the Cougars at #25 in its preseason poll, the website expects a first place finish in the district race. 5A Texasfootball.com also predicts junior running back Ryan Jones will be 28-5A’s Newcomer of the Year.

Hayden Greenbauer and Robert Chapman are two Clark Cougar football players on 5ATexasFootball.com preseason All State Teams for 2009.  Each were listed as 2nd Team All State players.  Senior Ethan Price, Senior Joe Vasquez and Junior Ryan Jones also made their Region 4 players to watch list in the Region 4 analysis.
