Clark Cougars

Following successful seasons for both teams Clark baseball placed 10 players on the All District team and 7 Clark softball players made their All District squad.

For softball:  Henessey Soto and Dani Nash were unanimous 1st team picks. Also making 1st team were Megan Martinez, Britney Ramos and Liz Rodriguez. Named to 2nd Team All District were Megan Aragones and Jeslene Renteria.

For baseball: Pitcher Chris Werland, Infielders Jason Cervantes and Hunter McFall, Outfielder Robert Martin, Catcher Braden Mattson and Utility Matt Cohen were all named 1st Team All District.

Infielder Chad Dullnig and Outfielder Ed Moore made 2nd Team All District and Ryan Skowronski and John Henderson were Honorable Mention All District.

Megan Martinez, Megan Aragones, Dani Nash

Clark softball is sending at least three players into the college ranks next season. In a ceremony before a packed house of friends and family on Thursday, seniors Megan Martinez, Megan Aragones and Dani Nash all signed on to play college ball. Megan Martinez, who played 3rd base for the Cougars, will head to Mississippi Valley State next year. Megan is the daughter of Isabella Meza and she’ll study Biology Pre-Med in college. Megan Aragones, a utility player and pitcher for Clark, will play at the University of Texas at Dallas where she’ll study Kinesiology. Megan is the daughter of Anne Herrera and Chip Aragones. Dani Nash, who plays in the outfield, signed with Navarro College in Corsicana. She plans to get her Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies while there. Dani is the daughter of Elaine and Tod Nash.

Clark coach D’Layne Kelly said the three had worked hard for this moment and she was proud of each one of them.

Soto pitching and hitting

The Cougars softball team secured an 8-1 win over Warren on Tuesday. Clark spread its runs almost evenly through the game scoring in every inning except the 2nd. The Cougars had 14 hits to Warren’s 3. Henessey Soto was on the mound and gets her 12th win of the season. Soto is batting .542 on the season followed by Megan Martinez at .452 and Dani Nash at .442.

The Cougars are in 3rd place in District, but just a half game behind 2nd place Taft. Next up is Stevens on Friday at 7:00pm at Northside.

The Clark softball team continued their district hitting streak with a 15-4 rout of the #5 ranked Brandeis broncos on Wednesday. The Cougars took a respectable 4-1 lead into the 5th inning and then exploded with 6 runs in the 5th and 5 more in the 6th inning – off a game total of 12 hits. The 28-5A All district softball team looks good for Clark Cougar fans.  Junior Megan Aragones, senior Rochelle Nash, freshman Liz Rodriguez and sophomore Henessey Soto all made the 1st team with Rodriguez and Soto voted in unanimously.  Junior Megan Martinez and sophomore Britney Ramos were named to the 2nd team.

The team made the playoffs for the third year in a row.  Congratulations, ladies.  Well done!

The 9th ranked Clark softball team started the season Tuesday by losing a close one 3-2 to 10th ranked Harlandale. Henessey Soto pitched with relief from Megan Aragones in the 4th inning.  Megan Martinez got two key hits for the Cougars and freshman catcher Alex Losoya had a double .

There’s a roster full of Clark Cougars on the  2009 Texas State Champions in Senior League softball and the team is just one game away from the Senior League World Series.  The Champs have rolled through Divisional, Sectional and Regional playoffs and plan to make their last stop Sussex County, Delaware where they will compete for a world championship. The Cougars on the team include pitchers Henessey Soto and Megan Aragones, 1st baseman Felicia Sanchez, 2nd baseman Britney Ramos, 3rd baseman Megan Martinez and Centerfielder Dani Nash. All six girls played varsity softball for Clark in the spring. They are joined on the team by 3 players who will be entering Clark this fall. The area’s best in spring sports as named by the Express News  includes some outstanding athletes from Clark  as do the All District squads for softball and baseball.

 In softball, Christina Rodriguez made the paper’s Super Team. In her senior season the Clark catcher hit .485 and was a unanimous All District selection, she will take her game to the next level at St. Mary’s University next year. Rodriguez was also selected to the Class 5A team for the area. Other softball players named to the 1st team All-District squad are Megan Aragones and Henessey Soto, both sophomore pitchers. On the All-District 2nd team is freshman  Britney Ramos, sophomore Megan Martinez and junior Rochelle Nash.

In baseball, Cougar pitcher Carl O’Neal was named to the Class 5A team and was a unanimous selection for the 28-5A 1st team All-District squad. O’Neal will play ball at St. Mary’s University next year. Also named 1st Team All District are senior Joseph Ybarra and sophomore Jason Cervantes – both unanimous selections,  senior Trey Doebbler and sophomore catcher Braden Mattson. Making All-District 2nd team is junior pitcher Vince Salazar.

In golf, junior Hunter Gathright was named to the All-Area team.
