CLARK TRACK RUNS STRONG AT DISTRICT

The Clark boys track and field team placed 3rd at the District Meet this week and will send several athletes to the Regional Meet. Top results included: 2nd place for Brandon Yates in the 200 meter (22.08), 2nd place for Ben Deschner in the 400 meter (51.77), 3rd place for Austin Wells in the 1600 meter (4:28.27) and 2nd place for Wells in the 3200 meter (9:35.95), 1st place for Kyle Rutledge in the High Jump (6’2″), 2nd place for Jimmy Kueber in the Shot Put (48′ 9.5″), 2nd place for Kueber in the Discus (148′ 5″), 2nd place for the 4×100 Relay (42.38) and 2nd place for the 4×200 Relay (1:29.38) – Relay team is Brian Socha, Brandon Yates, Travis Cooke and Malcolm Eatman. BOYS RELAY SETS NEW RECORD – AGAIN!

For the second time in as many meets, the Clark Cougar boys 4x100m relay team (Travis Cooke, Brandon Yates, Malcolm Eatman, and Brian Socha) set a new Clark record at the NEISD Relays. Their time of 42.27 beat the previous record, which they set this weekend in the SAISD meet (42.37). Prior to that, the record was 42.50 set in 2005 by Adam Sauer, Brandon Mills, Ross Vale and Jerrell Wilkerson.
Austin Wells also broke the 1600m record at the South San meet on March 4th. He ran a 4:25.43 which broke the old record held by Jesse Mader set in 2000 with a time of 4:27.06.
Several other Cougars also did well at the NEISD Relays. (continue reading…)
CLARK TRACK RUNS THE ALAMO

The Clark Track team competed and showed well at the SAISD Invitational at Alamo Stadium. The boys team placed 3rd overall with points earned by: Brian Socha (100m), Travis Cooke (200m), Ryan Pavlich (800m), Austin Wells (3200m), Kyle Rutledge (High Jump), James Kueber (Shot Put and Discus), and the relay teams (4×100, 4×200, 4×400).
The girls team placed 8th with Shantel Swift earning points in the Triple Jump and 200m, and Rebekah Washington in the High Jump, and the Girls 4×100 relay team.
Austin Wells (1600m) and Shantel Swift (triple jump) qualified for the Texas Relays.

TRACK TOPS AT EDGEWOOD RELAYS

The Clark boys track team took 1st place at the Edgewood Relays over the weekend. Results include: Kyle Rutledge placed 1st in the High Jump, Jimmy Kueber was 3rd in Discus and J. Aueber was 3rd in shot put. Austin Wells was 1st in the 3200 and 2nd in the 1600 while Aiden Pierce was 5th in the 1600. The Cougar Relay teams placed 3rd in the 4 x 100, the 4 x 200 and the 4 x 400. Malcolm Eatman was 4th in the 100 meter dash and Ben Deschner placed 5th in the Long Jump.
The girls team placed 6th overall.

For the first time since 2007 the Clark boys basketball team has advanced to the 3rd round of the playoffs. The Cougars beat Madison on Thursday night 49-37. Clark grabbed the lead in the first quarter and never relinquished it. Niko Maxwell led the Cougars in scoring with 16, Jake Chapman had 12 and Kyle Rutledge added 10. Also scoring were Ansley Benjamin and Jacob Palacios with 4 each and Adam Perez with 3. (continue reading…)
CLARK TAKES PLAYOFF WIN

The Clark boys basketball team won their bi-district game against Corpus Christi Carroll 80-71 on Tuesday night in Victoria. Clark was led this time by Niko Maxwell who had 18 points. Guard Adam Perez had 14 points and seniors Ansley Benjamin and Jacob Palacios added 12 points each. Jake Chapman joined in the scoring with 10 followed by Carter Josephs, Kyle Rutledge, Cal Harr and John Chapman.
The 24-8 Cougars will take on Madison in the second round. Date and location TBA.

CLARK TAKES DOWN TAFT

Clark boys basketball handed the Taft Raiders their only district loss of the season on Saturday by a score of 67-55. With some hot shooting the Cougars ran up a halftime lead of 41-26. Leading Clark in scoring was junior guard Adam Perez with 15. Kyle Rutledge had 12, Ansley Benjamin scored 9 and Jake Chapman added 8. Also contributing were Carter Josephs and Niko Maxwell with 7 points each and Jacob Palacios with 6 points.
With one game remaining in the regular season, Clark is tied with Warren for second place in the district race with a 12-3 record. Taft wins district with a 14-1 record.
The Cougars close the season with Marshall on Wednesday at Paul Taylor at 6:00pm.
CLARK SHUTS DOWN O’CONNOR

The Clark boys basketball team dominated the hardwood in a 49-33 victory over O’Connor. The Panthers managed to score only 6 points in the first half to Clark’s 20. Ansley Benjamin and Adam Perez each had 15 points for the Cougars while Kyle Rutledge added 9. With an 11-3 record Clark is in 2nd place in District 27-5A. They take on the first place Taft Raiders on Saturday at 1:30 at Paul Taylor.

COUGARS HAMMER HOLMES

After two “nail biter” games in the last ten days, the Clark boys basketball team took care of business against Holmes on Saturday with a 59-49 win. The Cougars were led in scoring by Ansley Benjamin with 13 and Adam Perez with 10. Kyle Rutledge added 9 and Shawn Cason had 8 points in the victory. The boys are now tied with Warren for second place in district.
Meanwhile, the Clark girls lost a tough one against the Huskies, 39-32.
Both teams face O’Connor this week. For the girls it’s Tuesday at 6:30 at Paul Taylor – their last game of the season. The boys play on Wednesday at Paul Taylor.

COUGARS RIDE BRONCOS TO VICTORY

Junior Adam Perez scored 16 points, including two three pointers and 8 of his points in the 4th quarter, to lead the Clark Cougars in a 59-52 win against the brandies broncos. Senior Kyle Rutledge and Senior Jacob Palacios added 10 each.
The Cougars led after each quarter. Brandies (yes, this website spells it that way because…well, it’s funny) trailed by as many as 14 during a majority of the game. The win was the opening district game for the Cougars who are ranked #5 in San Antonio.
