COOGS BUST BRONCOS

The girls varsity basketball team took to the hardwood against the brandies broncos and the result was a 62-59 victory. The Cougars record is now 2-1 in district play.
The ponies played well in the first half but the Cougars adjusted and poured it on in the third and fourth quarters, outscoring brandies by ten points in the final period for the victory.
Kristen Lye led Clark with 12 points but had plenty of help with Hannah Gulley and Melanie Schwartz adding 9 each, and Ashley Salinas and Donna Matthews sinking 8 more each.
Way to go COOGS!
COUGARS GET RAMMED

The Clark Cougars girls varsity basketball team exploded to a 15-4 1st quarter lead, then imploded, losing to Marshall 53-47 in district play. A fast paced, high energy Cougar squad allowed the Rams only two points until the final minutes of the quarter but the Rams held the Cougars to only 6 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarter each.
In the 4th quarter, the Cougars found their inside game from the 1st quarter but fell short for the win. Kristen Lye pounded the Rams for 14 points and Hannah Gulley supplied another 12. The Cougars now stand at 6-11 and 1-1 in District 27-5A.
COUGARS ROLL

The Clark girls basketball team opened district play with a dominating 49-37 win over Taft this week. Kristen Lye accounted for almost half of the Cougar’s points with 23. Melanie Schwartz, Donna Matthews and Hannah Garcia all added 6 points each. Up next is Marshall on Friday at 6:00 in the gym at O’Connor. Good luck Coogs!
The Clark boys continue to improve, posting a 57-51 win over Seguin on Tuesday. Jacob Palacios led the Cougars with 18 points while Adam Perez added 14 and Kyle Rutledge had 11 points in the win. Clark moved up to #6 in the area in the most recent Express News rankings. Their record is now 9-5 overall with a big game against Judson on Saturday at noon at Paul Taylor.
LADIES SHOOT IT UP IN AUSTIN

The Clark Cougars girls varsity basketball team had a good weekend in Austin, winning two but also dropping two at the Austin Bowie Tournament this past weekend.
The Cougars dominated in their first two outings, whipping Ausitn Bowie 52-42. Kristen Lye had 17 points in the game. A 53-20 pasting of Austin McCallum followed. Games against San Marcos and Leander, however, turned up in the loss column.
Next up for Clark is district play with the opener against Taft at Paul Taylor.
CLARK GIRLS SPLIT WITH DISTRICT FOES

The Clark girls basketball team closed out the Judson Tournament with games against two district rivals – one in the Silver bracket championship game. In the semi-finals the Cougars defeated Marshall 51-49. Hannah Gulley led the team with 13 points, while Ashley Salinas and Donna Matthews each had 10. (continue reading…)
BASKETBALL REBOUNDS

The Clark boys team plays Fort Bend Marshall Saturday in the championship game of the Bronze Bracket of the McDonald’s Texas Invitational in Pasadena. The Cougars lost the first two games of the tournament to Spring DeKaney, 66-50, and Duncanville by a closer 59-55. They pushed back with wins over Pearland, 35-34 and Humble, 57-49. CLARK GIRLS BLAST BRANDEIS

The Clark Cougars girls basketball team started District 28-5A play with a resounding 56-37 win over Brandeis at Paul Taylor Fieldhouse. Clark’s Carolyn Chavana continued her dominant play with 26 points. Vanessa Casanova added 8 points, Chloe Rhodes had 7 and Freshman Kristen Lye had 6.
The Cougars are 13-5 so far this season.
LADY COUGARS START SEASON WITH A WIN

Carolyn Chavana had 18 points and Hannah Gulley added another 12 as the Clark Cougar girls basketball team punked Lee 54-36 in their season opener. Taylor Buck, Melanie Schwartz, Courtney Rhodes, Kristen Lye and Chloe Rhodes also contributed points in the win. Their ladies play next in this weekend’s Harlandale Tournament. Congratulations also go out to Chavana, who was named a “Player to Watch” by the Express News.
