SPRING ATHLETES TAKING CHARGE

Congratulations to several Clark Cougars mentioned in the March 2 edition of the Express-News. First, the Lady Coogs soccer team jumped back into the Top Ten. Gabrielle Santorio was also mentioned with her 16 goals and 13 assists, some of the highest in each category in the city. The team currently sits 3rd in the district standings with a big game against district leader O’Connor coming up next.
In track, Hayden Greenbauer is credited as one of the best in hurdles in the 110 and 300 meter classes. The boys 800 meter relay team and the 1600 meter relay team also have some of the top times in the city. On the ladies side, Shaneve Swift has the TOP time in the 400 meter dash in the city this year, and Glynnis Meade is in the top ten in the 1600m and the 3200m runs. The ladies 1600 meter relay team is also has the 3rd fastest time this year in all of San Antonio.
Finally, the Clark varsity baseball team currently sits at the top of District 28-5A standings, tied with others and an overall 3-2-1 record. The Clark softball team is also at the top of the early district race with an overall 8-4 record.

Macy Ellis had a hat trick, Rebekah Richards, Robin Pennington, Gabrielle Santorio and Krysta Maples each had one goal and the Lady Cougars played heads up defense to defeat John Jay 7-0. GK Amy Ross notched her ninth shutout of the season.
FRESHMAN SOCCER PLAYER RECOGNIZED

Lady Cougar Gabrielle Santorio is recognized this week by the Express News for her outstanding play the past few games. The Lady Cougars will need more of that as they take on Marshall in a key district matchup. Congratulations, Gabrielle.
LADY COUGARS SHUT OUT STEVENS

The Clark girl’s soccer team continued their winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Stevens on Saturday. The Lady Cougars have won their last three games and improved their district record to 6-0-4 and 7-2-6 overall. Alyssa Bloom had two goals against Stevens and Gabrielle Santorio added one.
WOMEN’S SOCCER BUSTS BRONCOS

Backed by another outstanding effort in the goal and a strong defense, the Lady Cougars varsity soccer team defeated Brandeis 1-0 in district play. Fab freshman Gabrielle Santorio placed another ball in the goal to give Clark its fifth district win.
LADIES SOCCER GOAL EXPLOSION

In what can only be called a blowout as far as soccer is concerned, the Lady Clark Cougars soccer team placed 7 goals in the back of the net to defeat the Holmes Huskies 7-0. Freshman Gabrielle Santorio had three, Ciara Perez scored two and Rebekah Richards and Alyssa Bloom each joined the fun for a goal. The win is a welcome one after several ties and keeps Clark in the playoff race.
MEN’S SOCCER WINS, LADIES DON’T LOSE

In District 28-5A action, the Clark Cougars varsity soccer teams took on Taft. The men’s varsity team shutout the Raiders 3-0. Jonathon Lawson, Francisco Garza and Luis Hernandez scored for the Cougars. Both teams came into the match with a 3-2-1 record in district and Clark currently sits 3rd in the district race.
The ladies didn’t win but didn’t lose either with a 1-1 tie against the district leading Lady Raiders soccer team. Taft scored in the final minute of the game to avoid the loss. Freshman Gabrielle Santorio scored the lone goal for Clark. This is the fifth tie of the season for the ladies who remain in the chase for a playoff position in district 28-5A.
