COUGARS’ SWING SWEET AT JAY
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Mar.12, 2011, under Baseball
Clark baseball remained undefeated in district, beating the Jay Mustangs 14-10 in 7 long innings of play. Starting on the mound for the Cougars was Ryan Skowronski.
Clark’s first at bat saw 6 batters step into the box, recording 2 walks (Cervantes & Dullnig) and a RBI single by Matt Cohen. In Jay’s first at bat, a home run set the stage for a tough game. Clark defense quickly took care of the next batters to close out the inning.
In the 3rd inning, Jay scored another run, giving Jay a 2-1 lead at the end of 3. Jay scored another 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th and Chris Werland took the mound to get the last Jay out; score Jay 5, Clark 1.
At the top of the 5th inning, Clark bats said “ENOUGH”. Hunter McFall led off the inning and hammered a ball to the wall with a triple. Braden Mattson followed with a single, putting Clark runners on the corners. Chad Dullnig had a nice sacrifice fly to score McFall and advance Mattson. Mat Cohen hit a single to score Mattson and Werland’s fielders choice scored Cohen. The Mustangs were not to be stopped, scoring another 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th, score Jay 8 Clark 4. With pen in hand Clark baseball player Braden Mattson made his commitment to TCU official on Wednesday. The All-Area & All District catcher has been a varsity player at Clark since his freshman year. He joins a TCU baseball team that made a Cinderella run through Omaha during the College World Series, advancing to within a game of the championship series. Mattson will play for TCU coach, and National Coach of the Year for 2010, Jim Schlossnagle, who has led TCU to 7 straight NCAA Regional tournament appearances.
Before signing, Mattson thanked his parents, Trudy and Brian Mattson, his friends, teammates, teachers and coaches. In congratulating his star catcher, Clark coach Aldo Velazquez said, “Braden has worked hard to get here”.
Congratulations Braden!

Mattson, who catches and swings a big bat for the Cougars, has been a member of the Clark Varsity Baseball team since his freshman year. ALL STAR COUGARS AT BAT
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Jun.16, 2010, under Baseball
Two Clark Cougar baseball players have been selected to play in this year’s Jr./Sr. All Star game this coming Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 7pm at the Blossom Athletic Center. The game highlights area athletes who have achieved success on the field and gives them a chance to showcase their talents for college coaches and recruiters, as well as play against-and with-some of the best in the city. The game format pits the Junior athletes vs. the Senior athletes. Last year Carl O’Neal, Clark ’09, showcased his pitching at the game.
This year, Clark has 2 Varsity Players who were invited to play in the game; Braden Mattson (Catcher) and Hunter McFall (OF/IF). They will be playing on the Junior team. This is quite an achievement for the players and gives them an opportunity to play with some of their regular season opponents, have a little fun, and hopefully have the Juniors come out on top (again) this year.
Both Braden & Hunter have tickets to sell for the game at the low price of $5 so please help to support area baseball as well as Clark baseball by purchasing your tickets from Braden & Hunter. You can find out more information at jimscout.com. Way to go Coogs!
