The Clark boys team plays Fort Bend Marshall Saturday in the championship game of the Bronze Bracket of the McDonald’s Texas Invitational in Pasadena. The Cougars lost the first two games of the tournament to Spring DeKaney, 66-50, and Duncanville by a closer 59-55. Clark wins

The 9th ranked Clark boys basketball team got their new season off to a positive start with a 59-43 thrashing of Roosevelt. Jacob Palacios led the scoring with 13, followed closely by Adam Perez, who had 12. Niko Maxwell added 8 points and Kyle Rutledge had 7. Also contributing points tonight were Jake Chapman, Cal Harr, Chance Villareal, Carter Josephs  and Shawn Casons. The Cougars jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Next up is a first for Clark basketball – a trip to the McDonald’s Texas Invitational Tournament in Pasadena. Touted as the biggest tourney in the state and one of the largest of its kind in the country, the Texas Invitational attracts many of the state’s top ranked teams  among the 48 boys teams and 32 girls teams from across the state. District 27-5A will be well represented with three schools in the mix – Clark, Taft and Warren. Tournament play begins on Thursday.

Cougars win in June

Congratulations to several Clark Cougars on a stellar performance in summer league games this past week. Jacob Palacios, Adam Perez, Ansley Benjamin and several other Cougars showed well in state tournaments. You can read more about them here.

Sophomore Perez steps up

If you missed the game between the Clark Cougars and the O’Connor Panthers, you missed an “Instant Classic”  A game that looked like a sure win in the first half and a definite loss in the second half turned out to be a double overtime thriller with veteran leadership and a super sophomore making the difference in a 76-72 district win.

The game started out promising with three, three point buckets (one by Jason Brickman and two by Jacob Palacios) for the first scores by Clark to give the Cougars an early 9-4 lead.  At the end of the first, Jacob Palacios would score on a put back off a Kyle Rutledge shot and a Jason Brickman steal ended the quarter with the Cougars leading 19-14.

In the second quarter, the score would tighten up as O’Connor would take their first lead of the game, 27-25 with 4:55 left before the half.  The Cougars regained the lead and went to the locker room up by two, 32-30.

The Clark Cougars men’s freshman “A” basketball team won their final game of the year 48-47 over Stevens.  The win gives them a 15-1 record in district and an 18-3 record overall.  Congratulations to Coach Kirby and his team.  The final boxscore looked like this:

The ladies freshman basketball team also had a stellar season with an 18-3 record.  Congratulation to them as well and the future looks bright for Clark Cougar basketball.

The freshman men’s basketball team clinched their 14th victory in district with a 70-53 win over Brandeis.  They have only 1 district loss this year.  Scoring for the guys were:

This time, it was the Holmes Huskies who fell to the Clark Cougars freshman men’s basketball team.  Adam Perez led the scoring with 22 points. The final score was Clark 60 – Holmes 43.

The Freshman “A” team put another win on the board, this time against Taft.  The final score was Clark 73-Taft 67. Chris Miller scored 23, Adam Perez put in 20, Cal Harr added 14, Carter Josephs shot for 8, Troy Ogletree contributed 4, and  John Chapman had 4 as well.
