The Clark Cougars, coming off a shutout of the Jay Mustangs last week, continued their defensive dominance and the offense poured on the points in a 31-0 pasting of the O’Connor Panthers. Junior Jimmy Kueber started the Cougars off with a fumble recovery on the second play of the game and from there on out, it didn’t get any better for the Panthers. Hayden Greenbauer ran for a 13 yd. TD to end the drive and put points on the board early for Clark. Later in the 1st quarter, Tevin Glasgow would score on a rushing TD for his first of two TDs.
In the second quarter, O’Connor would have a chance to score. On the Clark 1 yd. line, the Panthers were set to get their first six but a mishandled snap would be recovered by Robert Chapman, his first fumble recovery, in limited defensive play, of the season. The quarter ended with a Webb Williams 33 yd. field goal, giving the Cougars a 17-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, it was all Cougars and almost all defense. Daniel Durke stopped another O’Connor threat with his first interception of the year and a nice return. Jacob Garcia would also have a great interception, his 3rd pick of the season. Tevin Glasgow would add another 1 yd. TD in the 4th quarter. Joe Vasquez, the Panther killer from last year’s exciting overtime thriller between the two teams, would repeat his role as he caught a perfectly thrown pass from Greenbauer for a 32 yd. TD reception. The final score was Clark 31 – O’Connor 0. It was the second consecutive shutout for Clark and the third of the year. Also of note was the -4 rushing yds. of offense for O’Connor. The Cougars are now 7-0 on the year and lead District 28-5A and are #1 in the Express News rankings.
