COUGARS IN REGIONAL SWIM MEET

Clark Cougars are ready to take to the water this Friday and Saturday at the Josh Davis Natatorium in Region VII- 5A Championships. Prelims will be held at 2 pm on Friday, and the top 16 finishers in each individual event advance to finals. The top 8 relays advance. Finals are at 2 pm on Saturday. Please come out to the pool and cheer on these Clark Cougars:

The Clark Cougars boys varsity team took a few minutes before practice to celebrate their 28-5A district championship. The Cougars are undefeated in district play with two games left on the schedule before heading to playoffs. See more photos by clicking here.
BOYS WIN AND (SIGH) ANOTHER TIE

The Clark Cougar varsity soccer teams played Taft and the results were familiar. The boys continued their winning ways with a 2-0 victory over the Raiders. Evan Javors and Jair Rodriguez scored for the Cougars to help push the district record to 6-0-1 and the overall record to 9-0-2. The Cougars lead the district race.
For the girls, another tie was the result in a 2-2 game against Taft. Gabrielle Santorio and Krysta Maples scored for the ladies. The tie puts the Cougars in 4th place currently in District 28-5A.
CLARK NAMES NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

Steven McGhee, Clark class of ’88, has been named to succeed Lloyd Alexander as the Cougar’s Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach. McGhee has served as a Football Coordinator and Assistant Coach at Clark for the past 8 years. Prior to that he coached at O’Connor, Reagan and was a member of the Roosevelt staff that won the 5A state championship in 1995.
As a student in the late ’80’s McGhee played football at Clark and was named to the All State team as a tight end in 1987. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his Masters from Texas A&M Kingsville. He and his wife Christine have three children.
Principal Stanley Laing made the announcement and commented about the promotion from within the Clark family, “Congratulations to Steve McGhee as our new head football coach and athletic coordinator. Coach McGhee is replacing Coach Alexander, who is retiring at the end of this school year. The success in all our athletic programs is no secret. A lot of that has to do with the consistency in our athletic program over the years and coaches committed to developing our students through the spirit of competition along with demanding successful student learning in the classroom. Under Coach McGhee’s direction, that will continue.”

GIRLS BASKETBALL ENDS SEASON WITH VICTORY

A hard fought win against the Holmes Huskies marked the end of a winning season for the Clark Cougar girls varsity basketball team. The Cougars finished 21-13 for the year with a 9-7 district 28-5A record but missed the playoffs by a game. Led by 6 seniors this year, the team improved on last year’s record both in overall wins and in district victories. Congratulations, Cougars!
BEST IN 28-5A; COUGARS WIN DISTRICT

The Clark Cougar varsity basketball team claimed the 28-5A district championship with a win over Holmes 75-54. The Cougars actually trailed after the 1st period but came back and stifled the Huskies with a 25 point outburst to end the half up 35-24. Jason Brickman (22), Elhad Emerllahu (17) and Ansley Benjamin (20) led the scoring for the Cougars. The win also pushed their win streak to 14, all against district foes. The Cougars still have two games left in district play.
CHAPMAN IS “ALL-TEXAS”

Clark offensive lineman Robert Chapman has been named to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football All-Texas High School Team for 2009. The UTSA bound senior is the only San Antonio player to make the first team roster – offense or defense. The All-Texas first and second teams are composed of players from every high school classification from 1-A to 5-A – all rolled into one.

BASEBALL LIVES UP TO HYPE

The #1 Clark Cougars varsity baseball team began their preseason games last night at a cold and windy South San High School, defeating South San 6 – 2. Returning lettermen Vincent Salazar, Jonathon Fargnoli, Jim Wells, Jeremy Casper, Jason Cervantes, Diego Hernandez, Hunter McFall, Peter Rozanski, Braden Mattson, Ryan Skowronski and Tyler Reinagel were joined by Chad Dullnig, Chris Werland, Matt Cohen, John Henderson and Cullen Holt. Salazar, Werland, Skowronski, Reinagel, Cohen and Henderson pitched the game, giving up only 2 runs in 10 innings. Ranked # 1 in San Antonio and #14 in the state in pre-season polls, the Clark Cougars showed well and that they have the talent to make it into the post season. Clark plays scrimmages this weekend at Madison HS at 10 & 12. They begin District games vs. Brandeis, on February 23 at 4:45p at Paul Taylor, NS # 2. Come out to see the boys play!
