OLLENDIECK GETS TOP POST AT SOUTHWEST

Former Hobby Middle School basketball coach Reggie Ollendieck has been named the new head basketball coach at Southwest High School. Ollendieck spent 5 years at Hobby coaching many current and former Clark Cougars. He was known as a fundamentals focused coach who had great success with his Hobby Hawk teams. Ollendieck has been an assistant at Southwest for two years and was named a finalist by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches for Assistant Coach of the Year in 2008-09.

ATTENTION FUTURE COUGARS: TIME TO CHEER!

On Saturday, August 21st from 8:30 – 11:45, the Clark Cheerleaders will be hosting their Annual Gucci Bowl Cheer Clinic in the Clark gym. The Cheerleaders will teach chants and cheers and Pinnacle Cheer Coaches will be on hand to lead tumbling activities. The cost is $20 and includes the clinic, a picture with the cheerleaders and lunch. T-shirts and hair ribbons will also be on sale. Participants will be able to perform with the Clark Cheerleaders at the Gucci Bowl Pep Rally -“Back in Black” -on Wednesday, August 25th at 6:30. COOGS START STRONG, FALL TO MAC

Looking to get the season opening loss past them, the Clark Cougar volleyball team came out strong against MacArthur, reeling off 5 unanswered points in game 1. They would go on to build a 17-5 lead and whipped the Brahmas 25-10 for the win. Mac attacked after that, however, winning games two (21-25), three (13-25) and four (21-25) and giving the Coogs their second loss of the year.
Marcella Arellano recorded 15 kills and 11 digs with help from Abigail Glosup who served up 11 assists. The Cougars play this weekend in the Northside tournament.
RUNNERS RECOGNIZED

Two Clark Cross Country Athletes received recognition from the website TXrunning.com. In District IV-5A Cross Country Previews, Austin Wells, sophomore, was recognized as a player to watch for the boys and Shantel Swift, Junior, was recognized as a player to watch for the girls. COUGARS COME UP BIG IN WORLD SERIES

The Northside Suburban Senior Softball All-Stars remain undefeated at the World Series in Delaware following a nailbiter of a win over Puerto Rico on Tuesday. Clark pitcher Henessey Soto used her bat to help start a rally in the 4th inning as she and a teammate drove in runs to tighten what was a three run deficit to 4-3. Then in the 6th inning Clark Cougar Felicia Sanchez hit an in the park home run to take a 6-4 lead and the win.
Tucson, Arizona is next on the list for the Northside team. That game will be Thursday at 4:30.
The All-Star team includes 7 Clark softball players.

COUGARS COMMIT TO COLLEGES

Two Clark Cougar baseball players comitted to play baseball at the next level.
Braden Mattson, Class of 2011, has committed to TCU for the 2011-2012 school year. Mattson, who catches and swings a big bat for the Cougars, has been a member of the Clark Varsity Baseball team since his freshman year. Mattson also had Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and Tulane vying for his talents. Congratulations Braden!
Jonathon Fargnoli, who graduated in June, has signed to play baseball for Fordham University in the Bronx, NY. Fargnoli played JV Baseball (2007), Varsity Baseball 2008-2010, and was the starting second baseman for Clark’s 2009 & 2010 seasons. Good luck to Jon at Fordham-we’re sure they’ll enjoy your glove!
CHARGERS DEFEAT COUGARS

The Clark Cougars volleyball team lost their first match of the season, 0-3, playing against the #1 ranked Churchill Chargers at Paul Taylor. The Cougars lost 15-25, 15-25 and 13-25 in the match. It was the 9th straight loss to Churchill by Clark. Marcella Arellano delivered 7 kills in the match and Kayci Murphy and Abigail Glosup each had 7 assists in the effort. The Cougars regroup to face another NEISD foe, MacArthur on Wednesday at 7pm.
SOFTBALL WORLD SERIES UPDATE

The Northside Suburban All-Stars, including several Clark Cougars, continued their winning ways at the Senior League Softball World Series in Delaware. COUGARS LEAD NORTHSIDE TO WORLD SERIES VICTORY

Chalk up victory #1 for the Northside Suburban All Stars at the Senior Softball World Series in Delaware thanks to some great Clark Cougar pitching and hitting. Henessey Soto was solid on the mound and Felicia Sanchez and Morgan Herrera provided some late game hitting to secure the 4-3 victory over Portsmouth, Virginia. GAME DAY!

Before the fall school bell rings, the Clark Cougars will head to the courts and fields, kicking off the 2010 athletic schedule. Coach Kristen Daniell and the varsity volleyball girls take on the Churchill Chargers at 5:30pm at Paul Taylor field house. The Chargers are ranked #1 in the Express News preseason poll.
At Clark, the football teams start fall practice. First year head coach Steven McGhee begins a new era with a relatively young roster and players returning from a 13-1 season in key areas.
Finally, season ticket sales for the varsity football season go on sale at the cafeteria on campus at 6pm.
