Rozanski opens up a can on Husky

Congratulations to Clark Cougar varsity football player Peter Rozanski who was this week’s KSAT12 “Big Hit of the Week” (week 10).  Peter’s 1st quarter blast on a Holmes receiver could be heard loud and clear as he delivered the blow.

It was one of the three Holmes 4th down attempts that failed in the 1st quarter thanks to a stellar defensive game by the Cougars.  Clark won 56-27

COUGAR RUNNERS FINISH DISTRICT STRONG

by on Oct.31, 2010, under Cross Country

On to Regional meet for these Coogs

Early morning temps in the mid-40’s required the Cross Country team to bundle up as they headed to Hardin Athletic Complex for this year’s District meet on Saturday, Oct 30th.  It had moved into the 50’s when the Varsity Girls took off at 9am – perfect running weather for the first two of four Cougars that qualified for the Regional Meet, as the top 10 individuals and 3 teams move on.  Glynnis Meade finished 4th in 12:04.7 and Shantel Swift 7th in 12:27.3.  The Varsity Boys race was neck and neck most of the way between Austin Wells and a runner from O’Connor.  With just over 100m to go, they bumped slightly and Austin fell, but he popped back up to hold on to 2nd place in 15:43.3.  Ryan Pavlich placed 7th in 16:45 to round out our Regional qualifiers.  The Girls team finished 6th and the Boys were 5th overall.  Next week’s meet is at Brooks City Base, with the 5A Girls running at 11:40am and the Boys at Noon.  Come cheer our Cougars on!

VICTORY!

by on Oct.30, 2010, under Football

Menezes steals one

After a week off the gridiron, the Clark Cougar football team came roaring back, demolishing the Holmes Huskies 56-27 in a homecoming victory.  The win keeps the Cougars in the playoff hunt with a must-win game against O’Connor next week.

Holmes’ first possession ended early when they were stopped on a 4th and 8 attempt from the Clark 37 yd. line.  The Cougars drove to the five where Deandre Holmes scored giving the Cougars a 7-0 lead.  The Cougars’ second score came after a 4th and 2 effort by the Huskies.  On the next play, Josh Kern bullied his way for 37 yds. for a 14-0 lead.  And once again, the Huskies were stopped on a 4th down attempt.  Hunter Anderson pounded his way to the end zone giving Clark a 21-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter wasn’t much better for the Huskies.  Manny Menezes picked off a Holmes pass, returning the ball for 36 yds., setting up a Kern to Ansley Benjamin 12 yd. TD reception.  The score came with 14 seconds off the clock at the start of the quarter.  The final Cougar score of the half  came when Josh Kern ran for his second TD at the 4:18 mark.  Holmes would score with :35 seconds left before the half.  The teams went to the locker room with Clark up 35-7 at the half.

COUGARS FALL SHORT

by on Oct.27, 2010, under Volleyball

Clark Volleyball

The Clark volleyball team fought back from a 2-0 deficit in Tuesday’s district championship game to take the third game and then threatened to take the match to five games, but fell just short, losing 25-20 in the 4th.  Marcella Arellano and Jenn Garrett led the work at the net with 10 kills each. Arellano added 17 digs to that and Nicole Rehm had 16 more. Leading with assists were Kayci Murphy with 17 and Adriana Christian with 12.

The loss means the Cougars face Brandeis on Friday at 6:00pm at Paul Taylor to determine the 2nd place team in district leading into the playoffs. Lots of great volleyball ahead for Clark!

DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP UP FOR GRABS

by on Oct.25, 2010, under Volleyball

Cougars Aim High

The stakes are high as the #9 ranked Clark volleyball team heads into Tuesday’s match up against #8 O’Connor. The Panthers are 14-1 in district play with their only loss coming against the Cougars on September 24th. Clark, meanwhile is 13-2 in 27-5A play and a win against O’Connor on Tuesday night would result in a tie for the district championship. Such a tie would mean the Cougars come out on top after beating the Panthers twice this season. That’s the plan for the 7:00 pm game at Paul Taylor fieldhouse! More on the district race from the Express News.

ALL COUGAR FANS ARE ENCOURAGED TO COME OUT AND CHEER ON THE GIRLS FROM CLARK!

CROSS COUNTRY READY FOR DISTRICT

by on Oct.25, 2010, under Cross Country

Rainy Day Run

Thunder and Lightning!
Storms moved through south San Antonio as the Varsity teams should have been warming up for this week’s SAISD meet (10/24), back again on the grounds of the San Antonio State School.  NISD procedures require athletes to stay on the buses until 30 minutes after the last sighted lightening.  Although the meet organizers opted to start the races at the posted times, instead of shortening their warm up, several schools including Clark decided to wait and run both Varsity and JV in the JV races.  Shantel Swift and Glynnis Meade placed 1st and 2nd in 12:32 and 12:35, with Valerie Vacek next in 14:20, then a whole pack of Cougars – Erika Parsons, Brittany Perez, Ariel Schmid and Lauren Porter – one right after another with times from 15:04 to 15:07 for the slightly long 2 mile race.  Austin Wells easily won the Boys 3 mile, running 16:37, with Ryan Pavlich in 8th (17:59) then Nicholas Moseley 18:36, Aidan Pierce 19:16, Mark Pena 19:20, Philip Ross 19:21 and Daniel Carcamo 19:27.
Next up is the District meet on Saturday, Oct 30th with races starting slightly later than normal – 9am for Varsity Girls, 9:30am for Varsity Boys, 10am JV Girls, 10:30am for JV Boys.  The meet will run on the grounds of Hardin Athletic Complex, ending in Gus Stadium.  Come cheer on our Cougars!
