CERVANTES SIGNS

Clark baseball shortstop Jason Cervantes has signed an NAIA Letter of Intent with Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. With his parents, Roger and Patricia, looking on Jason thanked his Clark teammates for their support. Jason was also considering offers from McMurray University, Cisco College and Alvin Junior College, among others.
Jason is a second generation Clark Cougar. His father was a classmate of Clark Baseball Coach Aldo Velazquez. Jason will study Kinesiology at Briar Cliff and play ball for Coach Boyd Pitkin.
SOFTBALL KNOCKS OFF BRANDEIS

Clark softball beat Brandeis 5-3 on Tuesday at Northside. The victory means Clark takes sole possession of 3rd place in district with an 8-3 record. Henessey Soto was on the mound for the Cougars and gets her 12th win of the season. The team had 8 hits during the game.
Up next for the Cougars is a game against Jay on Friday at 5:00.

PLAYOFF FUTBOL! CLARK VS CHURCHILL

A spring version of the Gucci Bowl will play out on the Blossom Stadium pitch on Thursday at 7:00 when Clark meets Churchill in the Area soccer playoffs. Clark comes into the 2nd round match up with a 19-3-3 season record and a #2 area ranking. The Chargers are 15-6-2 on the season. They defeated Judson 2-1 in the first round after finishing in 2nd place in their district.
The defending Region IV finalists Cougars are led in the goal by senior keeper Gavin Greene and the Express News’ Pat Turner reports Greene has been waiting for his turn. Read more..
Come out on Thursday and support the Cougars. The game will be played on the Blossom East field where the bleachers are smaller and will fill up fast. Let’s make sure they’re not filled up by Churchill fans!

CLARK DOMINATES SOUTH SAN~WINS BI-DISTRICT

An enthusiastic Clark crowd saw the boys soccer team use speed and skill to control their bi-district match up against South San on Monday, winning 4-1. Jair Rodriguez had two goals and Vinnie Guerrero and Oscar Barboza finished with one each. Three of the Clark goals came in the first 25 minutes of the game and the Bobcat’s lone goal was in the last minute.

The Clark boys soccer team kicks off the 2011 playoff season with a match against South San tonight at 7:30 at Farris. District Champions for the second year in a row, the Cougars are looking for a return trip to the Regional Tournament and a never before trip to the State tourney before it’s all over.
Come out and watch this talented team begin their run! GOOOOO COOGARS!
SOFTBALL SLAPS MARSHALL

The Clark softball team got back to its high scoring ways with a 12-1 victory over Marshall last Friday. The Coogs scored 6 runs in the 3rd and another 6 in the 4th to take the win. They had 14 hits in the game and 1 error. Henessey Soto was on the mound for her 11th win of the season.
Up next is a big game against Brandeis on Tuesday the 29th at 7 pm. Clark and Brandeis are tied for 3rd place in District 27-5A with identical 7-3 district records.

TRACK TOPS AT EDGEWOOD RELAYS

The Clark boys track team took 1st place at the Edgewood Relays over the weekend. Results include: Kyle Rutledge placed 1st in the High Jump, Jimmy Kueber was 3rd in Discus and J. Aueber was 3rd in shot put. Austin Wells was 1st in the 3200 and 2nd in the 1600 while Aiden Pierce was 5th in the 1600. The Cougar Relay teams placed 3rd in the 4 x 100, the 4 x 200 and the 4 x 400. Malcolm Eatman was 4th in the 100 meter dash and Ben Deschner placed 5th in the Long Jump.
The girls team placed 6th overall.
CLARK WINS CATFIGHT; 1st IN DISTRICT

Clark baseball defeated O’Connor 5-3 in extra innings. This puts Clark in first place in district heading into the second half of the season.
O’Connor took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd, but Clark came back in the top of the 3rd with a score by Jason Cervantes. Neither team scored in the 4th inning, but when Clark came up to bat in the 5th, Ed Moore hit a double to deep center field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hunter McFall, and the inning ended with the score Clark 2, O’Connor 1.
In the 7th inning, Devin Haley drew a walk, was advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice by Robert Martin and scored when Ryan Skowronski hit a single. Clark went into the bottom of the 7th inning with the lead, 3-1. O’Connor responded with two home runs to even the score and send the game to extra innings. (continue reading…)
