The 2011-2012 athletic season begins in earnest as volleyball two-a-days begin today at Clark. In 7 days, Clark volleyball will take on Churchill in the first match of the season and football practice will also begin.

Also, season tickets for football go on sale on August 8th at Clark.

Cougars hit jackpot in Vegas

Three Clark Cougars and their club basketball teammates won the prestigious AAU Las Vegas Live this past week.  Adam Perez, Nikko Maxwell and Carter Josephs play for the Texas Ambassadors and powered their way through several top quality teams to win the championship.

SWIM TEAM TRYOUTS

Try Outs!

Clark Cougar Swim Team tryouts  for the 2011- 2012  squad  are  August 8 – 12:

Monday  –  Friday   at Colonies House Pool
3511 Colony Drive,       78230

7:30 am  start    for approximately 1  hour to  90 min  each day.
A  test set  and  a  100   sprint  will be  evaluated each day.
Each day will  test a different  race:
free,  back,  breaststroke, butterfly and IM.

Physicals need to be done and turned in to the trainer’s office at Clark before  a swimmer  can try-out.

TENNIS TRYOUTS

Tryouts for the 2011-12 Clark Tennis team will be held August 2-4. To be included and prepared for those try outs all interested students are required to attend a meeting on July 28th at 10:00 am at the Clark tennis courts. More info is posted on the school website.

The Clark tennis program, led by Coach (and Clark alum) Scott Byrd, will be aiming  for its 20th consecutive district championship this fall.

YOUNG HAMILTON SURVIVES SHARK ATTACK

Shawn Hamilton, the son of longtime Clark basketball coach and current NISD Assistant Athletic Director Kevin Hamilton, had the scare of a lifetime earlier this month and has the scars to prove it. Shawn, 14, was fishing off Mustang Island with his family when he was attacked by a shark and fought back. Details from the Caller Times newspaper and KRIS TV.

COUGARS KICK OFF “THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS” – AGAIN

For the third consecutive year the “Gucci Bowl” game between Clark and Churchill will air live on local television station KMYS. The August 25th match up will kick off at 7:10 pm at Farris Stadium. The always highly anticipated opening season game between the Cougars and Chargers is in its 28th year.

Other NISD schools featured on KMYS TV’s “Thursday Night Lights” schedule include Marshall, Taft, Holmes, Stevens and O’Connor. Click here for schedule details.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

Fooball Season Tickets

Less than a month from now season tickets for the Clark Cougars 2011 football season will go on sale. According to the Northside ISD athletic department, tickets will be sold on Monday night August 8th at 6:00 at Clark. Nine games are included in the season ticket packet for a total of $63 per person. The only regular season Clark game not included with the season tickets is the September 2nd match up at Alamo Heights. Three games will be played at Gustafson Stadium and the remaining 6 at Farris.

Traditionally the line forms early for the 6:00 ticket sales in the Clark cafeteria. So get there early and guarantee your favorite spot for the new season!

Conveniently enough, after buying your tickets you can head to Blossom to watch the Clark Volleyball team defeat Churchill in their first match of the season at 7:00.

LET’S GO COOGS!!!

Note: If you miss the August 8th sale, the Clark tickets will be available at the Northside Athletic Office at Paul Taylor Fieldhouse, but only until August 16th.

SWIFT & WELLS HEAD TO AAU JUNIOR OLYMPICS

Clark track and field athletes Shantel Swift and Austin Wells have been busy running and jumping this summer and the result is a trip to New Orleans in August for the AAU Junior Olympic Games. Swift has qualified in the Triple Jump, placing second at the National Qualifier competition at Judson last weekend. Wells placed first in the 3000 meter run to qualify for the Junior Olympics.

They will join athletes in as many as 19 different categories of sports competition beginning July 28th and running through August 6th.

Shantel will be a senior at Clark in the fall and Austin will be a junior. WAY TO GO!!!

MILLER GETS OLYMPIC TRY OUT

Miller earns trip to Olympic trials

Chelsea Miller, Clark class of 2010, recently qualified for the Olympic swimming trials at a meet in College Station.  Her winning time of 2:35.80 in the 200m Breaststroke earns her a trip to Omaha next summer to attempt to make the US Olympic swim team.

Chelsea is a swimmer at Boise State University.

CLARK SPRING ATHLETES HONORED

In addition to the 17 Clark baseball and softball players on the All District teams this year four spring athletes landed on the Express News All Area lists.

Braden Mattson was named to the E-N Super Team for baseball. The TCU bound catcher was also on the All-Area list for the second consecutive season. Also named All-Area for baseball is infielder Hunter McFall who will continue his baseball career at Texas Tech. Clark’s exciting 4-3 win over O’Connor was listed among the best games of the season.

Henessey Soto was named to the softball All-Area team. Soto, a junior pitcher, was also the District 27-5A Most Valuable Player for 2011.

In tennis, Clark’s Justin Randell was named to the All-Area team in Boy’s Singles. Randell is a senior.

Congratulations to all these Cougars and their teammates for representing Clark, Texas so well!
