CLARK DOC NOW HALL OF FAMER

Congratulations to Clark Cougar athletic trainer Paul “Doc” Rost on his induction to the Alamo Area of Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame. Taking care of Clark athletes for the past 30 years, “Doc” was also responsible for raising funds, helping design and maintains Clark’s top notch Sports Medicine Facility.
A graduate of Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State), “Doc” has been at Clark since 1982 after 5 years in Sequin. You can find out more about “Doc” and his staff and Clark sports medicine facilites on this website. Congratulations, “Doc”!
Also of note, T.R. St. Charles, a Clark parent and the Director of Football Sports Medicine at the University of the Incarnate Word, is also an AAATA Hall of Fame member.

Congratulations are in order for Austin Wells, a Clark Cougar cross-country and track standout, who made the txrunning.com All State Pre-season team. The senior, who owns AAU gold and just missed medaling at the state meet last season, will be one of the favorites from the South Texas area.

STARTERS ANNOUNCED FOR FALL SEASON

The NISD Board of Trustees announced the new principal and assistant principals at last night’s meeting. The new principal is Dr. Jerry Woods, formerly vice principal at Brandeis. New assistant principals are Jaime Heye, an assistant principal at Hobby Middle School (Go Hawks!) and Robert Martinez, a teacher from Jay High School. More information can be found here.

FORMER COOGS DIG TRENCHES; PLAYERS WIN

The Clark Texas Football Club (CTFC) held it’s annual Re-Landscaping Charity Outing, also known as a golf tournament, supporting college scholarships for current football players. Rusty Belden, Bryce Belden, Geoff Bezuidenhout and Kenny Hogan took 1st for the second year in a row while Jason Belden, Omar Medina, Travis Ratliff and Michael Damolin grasped 2nd place. Jesse Garcia earned a Closest-to-the-Pin award and Gary Turner had the longest drive with a 745 yd. missile (unconfirmed…). Kevin Miles, the first CTFC scholarship winner and this year’s winners, Kweku Larbie and Roger Lamar, attended along with Coach Lloyd Alexander and many others.
CTFC is a nonprofit organization that promotes camaraderie among former players, coaches and fans of the Clark Cougar football program. This coming year, activities are planned, including a tailgate, in order to support the cause. You can find out more here or on Facebook.
THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, DIFFERENT GAME

For the fourth consecutive year, you can watch the Clark Cougars on TV on KMYS-TV “my35″‘s “Thursday Night Lights” broadcast. Unlike the previous three years, however, it won’t be against Churchill in the Gucci Bowl. Clark’s appearance will be the following Thursday, September 6th, against Alamo Heights. In fact, every NISD school will be shown over the season except one – O’Connor. Sources claim there was only room for the Big Cats…

SWIFTS STRIDE SOUTH, SECURE SILVER

Congratulations to former Clark Cougars Shaneve and Shantel Swift, who are running for their native country of Belize in the XXIII Central America Senior Championships.
Shaneve won a silver medal in the 200m and both she and her sister, Shantel, received medals in relay events. Shaneve runs for Incarnate Word and Shantel will be running for UTSA this year. Read more about these world class runners here.
