Not the Cougars’ Knight

As they say, Cougar fans, all good things must come to an end, and that, unfortunately, applies to the Cougars’ football season. For those of you at the game, you may have noticed the team did not enter the field in their usual fashion – instead, they were joined by the newest member of their team, senior Justin Jewell. Justin suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a crippling disease that has left Justin wheelchair dependent. As a Clark student, Justin is a HUGE fan of Cougar Athletics, and joined the team in the locker room before the game. Justin, with the assistance of seniors Trenton Ford and Zach Wood, led the team through the Cougar banner, out to face the Knights from Steele, the second ranked 5A team in the Area. Inspired by Justin, the Cougars came out playing arguably their best football of the season, forcing the powerful offense of Steele to convert a fourth down on their first possession, but eventually giving up the touchdown. The Coug’s offense came charging back, finding the end zone on their first possession, and it looked like we were in for a battle. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, as those would be the only points the Cougars would manage against the Steele defense. The Knights’ offense showed why they are the second ranked team in the Area, and after the dust settled, the Cougs found themselves on the wrong side of a lopsided 52-6 final score. The Cougars provided their fans with some exciting football and great wins this year, and for that – we are proud of them, and congratulate them on a terrific season. Go Cougs!!

Varsity Football Harnesses the Huskies

Your Clark Cougars hosted the Huskies from Holmes high school on another perfect night for Texas high school football last Friday. Clark’s offense was clicking early, getting on the board twice in the first quarter on runs of 55 and 18 yards by Branden Valle. The defense brought their “A” game again in the first half, surrendering only a touchdown at the very end of the half. Sophomore Chris Rollins added to Clark’s lead in the third quarter when he scrambled 12 yards into the end zone for his first touchdown of the season. Touchdowns by Trenton Ford (6-yard run) and R’Mani Bettis (25-yard pass from Ford) rounded out the scoring for the Cougs in the fourth quarter. Nick Gonsalves was perfect on PAT’s for the night. The defense played a strong second half, giving up one touchdown on a perfectly executed hook and ladder by the Huskies, and a meaningless touchdown in the closing seconds of the game. The final score was 35-20, giving the Cougars a 5-2 district record, 5-4 overall. The final regular season game will take place this Friday when Clark visits Warriors from Warren at Gus stadium.

Cougars Rain on Rams’ Homecoming Parade

Hey Cougar fans – sorry for such a delayed posting!!! Your Clark Cougars took on the Rams from Marshall last Friday on a perfect night for Texas football. It may have been Marshall’s Homecoming, but it was definitely Clark’s night. Your Cougars scored through the air, on the ground, and defensively!! R’mani Bettis started off the scoring on a 40-yard pass from Trenton Ford early in the second quarter. Near the end of the third quarter, Sam Carter stripped the ball from a Ram running back, and took it 58 yards for the second touchdown of the night. After the Rams managed their only touchdown of the evening, the Cougars’ own Brandon Valle scored on a 5-yard run to seal the victory. Nick Gonsalves was perfect on PATs, and the Cougars had themselves a 21-7 victory. The Clark defense was tough again, causing the Rams to turnover the ball three times. The Cougars take their 4-2 District record back to Farris this Friday when they host Huskies from Holmes.

Clark Tennis Region Disappointment

by on Oct.25, 2013, under Tennis

Disappointing, that  is the best word to describe Region this year. Clark had a hard draw, probably the second hardest first round draw in the tournament, NEISD champions Reagan. The Rattlers are unusually deep this year, with players able to specialize in doubles  or singles instead of playing both. The Coogs fought valiantly, but went down 10-3.
