Cougars travel to Corpus Christi

Cougars advance to Round Two of playoffs

Up 1-0 in a best of three series, the Lady Cougars lost the 2nd game of the series 5-0, forcing a third game against Corpus Christi King to determine who advances to the next round.  In game three, the Cougars would not be denied, winning 6-3 in nine innings advancing to the second round.  It is only the second time Clark has made the playoffs and the first time in school history that the Cougars have advanced to the 2nd round.  Congratulations, ladies and keep it up.

BASEBALL FINISHES SEASON WITH WIN; PLAYOFFS NEXT

Waiting an extra week to finish the regular season didn’t hurt the Clark baseball team. The Cougars jumped on the Huskies in the first with two runs, added three more in the third off a Trey Doebbler home run by with two on and took the game against Holmes by a score of 8-2. Braden Mattson also homered in the sixth with one on.  After early predictions it would be a so-so season for the Cougars, Clark finishes in 2nd place in District 28-5A and heads into the Bi-District round of the playoffs  next week.

SOFTBALL TAKES GAME ONE

The Clark softball team won the first game in a best of three playoff series with Corpus Christi King on Friday. Final score was 1-0 with pitcher Henessey Soto on the mound for the Cougars. Game two gets underway Saturday at 2:00 at Cabaniss Field in Corpus Christi with game three to follow at 4:00pm, if necessary.

SOFTBALL SEND OFF – THE PLAYOFFS BEGIN!

Eyeing it in for a hit

READY FOR PLAYOFFS!

Clark Softball heads into the playoffs Friday night, May 8th, at 6:00 p.m. at Northside Field when they take on Corpus Christi King. The action shifts to Cabaniss Field in Corpus Christi on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with Game 3 (if necessary) scheduled for 4:00.

Cougar fans have a great opportunity to show support for the team on Saturday morning with a Send Off at 9:10 a.m. Everyone is asked to meet by the softball fields (behind Lockehill Elementary and University Methodist Church) and bring your signs and lots of noise to wish them luck as they load the buses and head to Corpus Christi. GOOD LUCK LADIES!

CLARK WATER POLO ATHLETES NAMED TO STATE TEAMS

Congratulations to David Garrett for being named to the 1st team All State boys team. Ashley Paul was also selected for the honorable mention girls All State team.  Both the boys and girls teams went to the state tournament this year, with the boys finishing 7th overall and the girls team tied for 9th.  Congratulations both as individuals and as great teams carrying on the Clark Cougar traditions!

UIL POSTPONES SPRING SPORTS FINALES

The University Interscholastic League has decided not to cancel the regional track meet originally scheduled for May 1-2. The UIL initially said the State meet would be expanded with the top four finishers in each event from each Region participating and the Regional meets were not to be held at all due to concerns about the swine flu virus. After working with the University of Texas, the site for the state meet, along with the regional meet sites the new plan is to hold the Region IV 5A-4A meet on May 15-16 at Alamo Stadium.  The state meet has been scheduled for June 5-6.

Remaining games and playoffs for baseball and softball have also been postponed along with all other UIL sports and academic competitions.

CLARK LACROSSE PLAYER SHINES

Clark senior Brett Atkinson has been named to the  All District team in the Texas High School Lacrosse League Division II Central District. Atkinson is part of a team based at Reagan High School, but which has players from several schools – including Churchill, Johnson and Clark. Atkinson and the Reagan team will play TMI in the first round of the playoffs. As with UIL activities, the lacrosse playoffs have been postponed due to swine flu concerns.

CLARK SENIOR SIGNS

Clark volleyball setter, Denise Pichot, has signed with Schreiner College in Kerrville.  Pichot joins a Mountaineers squad that finished the ’08 season with an 11-14 record. Schreiner is an NCAA Division III school and plays in the American Southwest Conference. Congratulations Denise!

Shaneve Swift wins 400m

Clark’s track athletes who qualified for Regionals traveled to Fredericksburg this Friday to participate in the Regional Qualifiers Track Meet.  This meet acts as a warm-up to the Regional Track Meet on May 1st and 2nd.  Gusty winds made for interesting times as sometimes they helped and other times they hindered.  Clark’s Varsity girls and boys did well, with the following results.
