CLARK VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO CHARGERS

In the opening game of the 2009 season for both schools, the Clark Cougars fell to Churchill three games to one. Clark got into a hole early losing game one 16-25 and game two 22-25 but rallied to win the third 26-24. The Chargers took control of game four winning 25-11 to take the match. Senior Kate Mazzocco tallied 13 assists, India Hartwell delivered 10 kills, Vanessa Casanova had 13 digs and Kayci Murphy registered 3 service aces for the evening.
VOLLEYBALL: CLARK VS. CHURCHILL

Clark volleyball is set to begin Monday, August 10th at 5:30 at NEISD’s Littleton Gym with the traditional season opener against Churchill. Always a classic, this year’s matchup pits the Cougars against the number seven ranked Chargers. Clark graduated ten players from last season’s team and will be led this year three returning seniors: Kate Mazzocco, Kayla Jarzombek and Claire Webster, who was selected by the Express News as a “Player to Watch” in District 28 5A. Coach Kristen Daniell’s young team will hit the ground running with two games and a tournament in this first week of the season. Check the schedule on this website for times and locations. GO COOGS!
COUGAR ACCELERATES IN NATIONAL MEET

Sam Perez, a varsity Clark track athlete, participated in the AAU National Track and Field meet at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa this week. He placed 42nd out of 65 athletes (Young Men’s division) in the 800m run prelims with a time of 2:04. The top 12 moved on to the Finals. He reached the meet by qualifying 2nd in the Regional meet with a time of 2:01.74. He placed 18th at Regionals in the 400m with a time of 54.10.
Others Cougars participating in Regionals:
Shantel Swift, 2nd in the 400m, 58.81; 7th in the 800m, 2:28.62; 1st in Long Jump, 17ft, 11 inches; 2nd in Triple Jump, 36 feet (Intermediate division) but was unable to attend the National meet
Morgan Thomas, tied for 3rd in Pole Vault, 13 feet (Young Men’s division)

SOFTBALL CHAMPS SHOWCASE COUGARS

There’s a roster full of Clark Cougars on the 2009 Texas State Champions in Senior League softball and the team is just one game away from the Senior League World Series. The Champs have rolled through Divisional, Sectional and Regional playoffs and plan to make their last stop Sussex County, Delaware where they will compete for a world championship. The Cougars on the team include pitchers Henessey Soto and Megan Aragones, 1st baseman Felicia Sanchez, 2nd baseman Britney Ramos, 3rd baseman Megan Martinez and Centerfielder Dani Nash. All six girls played varsity softball for Clark in the spring. They are joined on the team by 3 players who will be entering Clark this fall. Men's Medley Relay at District 28-5A meet
Tryouts for the 2009-2010 Clark Cougar swim team will be held the week of August 10-14 at the Colonies House pool – that’s across from Colonies North Elementary School. The tryouts will last from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and swimmers should plan on attending all five days.
And Don’t Forget: physicals must be on file with Clark trainers before trying-out! Good Luck Coogs!

CHAPMAN TO BE A ROADRUNNER

Clark senior center/deep snapper Robert Chapman has committed to sign with Coach Larry Coker and UTSA to play college football. After being pursued by various colleges, Chapman will become a UTSA Roadrunner following his senior season at Clark. Coker offered Chapman a 5 year deal where Robert will major in business, looking to earn an MBA from UTSA. The son of Bill and Amy Chapman, Robert’s decision was based on the coaching staff and “a value system that’s filled with integrity”, according to Bill. Coker’s comment that “we’re giving D1 scholarships to get D1 players” also spoke to the seriousness of the program and where it’s headed and that also played a part in Robert’s decision. SOFTBALL SUCCESS

Congratulations to a couple of Clark softball players who are playing summer ball. Felicia Sanchez and her Northside Little League Senior All Stars won the District 19 title and are competing in Ft. Worth for the regional title. Christina Rodriquez, a 2009 graduate, is playing for the Texas Challengers Gold, the first San Antonio team ever to qualify as an American Softball Association Gold Team. They will be competing in a national tournament beginning August 1st.
Both girls played on the 2009 Clark Cougar team, which reached the playoffs and made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs for the first time in school history. Good Luck ladies!
