March 4th and 5th found the Varsity Track teams back on the new track at South San High School for a big meet – 31 girls teams and 32 boys teams. Prelims were run on Thursday night, making the finals on Friday very exciting. The Cougar Girls finished an amazing 3rd overall, winning both the 4x100m (Triniqua Collins, Shaneve Swift, Esjah Booker, Luisa Garza – 49.15) and 4x200m (Triniqua, Shaneve, Esjah, Shantel Swift – 1:44.3) relays, with more points added by Shaneve, 2nd in the 200m dash (25.62), Shantel, 5th in the 800m (2:28.2) and 3rd in the long jump (16′ 4.5″), and Glynnis Meade, 4th in the 3200m (12:06.99). Cardinal Relays
UIW hosted the inaugural running of this Relays only track meet on a windy Friday, February 26th. The Girls Varsity team finished 4th out of 15 schools – impressive considering we only participated in a few events. They won the 4x100m relay (49.56) and the Distance Medley (1200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m – 13:43) and were 2nd in the 4x200m relay (1:47.3). The Varsity Boys were 5th out of 17 schools. The Boys 4x100m Weight Man team was 1st (49.5), Sprint Medley (100m, 100m, 200m, 400m – 1:43.7) 2nd, 4x100m 3rd (44.91), 4x200m 4th (1:33.9), and 4x800m 6th (9:20.1). Their Distance Medley team finished 5th (11.54.1) after having the baton accidentally kicked out of our hands during an exchange. The other events were the 4x400m, 4x1600m, and the wild and crazy 4x100m Shuttle Hurdle Relay.
