A loss by the Clark girls soccer team on Tuesday and wins by Taft and Marshall led to the Cougars missing  the playoffs by the narrowest of margins. Still tied for 3rd place heading into Tuesday’s games the Cougars either needed their own win or a loss by Taft or Marshall to make it to the postseason in one of  the 4 playoff spots. In the end 4th place Marshall got in with a 9-5-2 district record, Clark is 9-6-1. Taft took third place at 10-6-0.

Looking ahead: the Cougars lose 8 seniors but will return 17 players from this year’s squad next year, including top goal scorers – Freshman Chloe Trevino and Sophomore Blair Socha and a host of other top performers. Congratulations on a season well played!

The Clark boys, who locked up the postseason early, may have been guilty of looking ahead as they lost a 1-0 game to O’Connor. They enter the playoffs as the number two team in district 27-5A likely playing 28 5A third place team Corpus Christi Carroll next week.

The Clark girls soccer team took care of Holmes on Friday with a strong 6-0 victory. Five goals came in the first half of the contest with several players contributing. Scoring were: Lexi Platz with two goals and Blair Socha, Frances Moore, Monique Rempel and Chloe Trevino with one each. Socha, Rempel and Trevino also had assists in the game along with Bridget Sumner and Orlea Miller. The win holds the the Cougars’ spot tied for 3rd place in district with Marshall, both with 7-5-1 records. Taft is hot on their heels with a 7-6-0 record. Clark’s girls and boys soccer teams spent spring break scoring goals and improving their records. The girls are now in playoff position with a 4th place standing in district and two games remaining. The Cougars beat Warren 3-1 on March 9th and Stevens 8-0 on March 13th. Scoring goals were Chloe Trevino (3), Frances Moore (2), Monique Rempel (2), Lexi Platz, Alyssa Jacobs, Briana Aguirre and Andi Poore. Obviously a lot of great defense in those two games as well.

The Clark boys remain in second place in district, just a hair away from Jay, who handed them their only loss of the season. The Cougars are 11-1-2 in district and jay is 10-0-3. Jay has three game remaining and the Cougars have two. The boys beat Warren 3-0 over spring break and Stevens 7-0 behind goals from Jair Rodriguez (3), Carlos Sepulveda (3), Yamil Alvarado (2), John Cintron and John Bruce. And again great defensive work by these Cougars!

Next games for soccer will be on March 23rd at Northside when they take on Holmes. Girls at 5:00 and boys at 7:00.

Northside ISD boys soccer heavyweights Clark and Jay battled to a 0-0 tie on the pitch over the weekend. The defensive battle in gusty winds was in sharp contrast to the first match up between the two teams on January 31st, which Jay won in the closing seconds 4-3. Saturday’s game leaves the Mustangs in first place with a 9-0-2 record and Clark right behind them at 9-1-2.

The news was better for the Clark girls who beat Jay 2-0 with goals from Blair Socha and Kendall Traa. Action resumes for both teams on Friday with games against Warren at the Northside fields on Loop 410 and Culebra. Girls start at 5:00 and the boys at 7:00.

The beautiful game was just that for the Clark boys soccer team on Wednesday. The Cougars built a 4-0 halftime lead on their way to a 6-1 victory over the Broncos. Two Clark players found the back of the net not once, but twice – Chris Pantaleon and Manuel Garcia. Also scoring were Jair Rodriguez and Carlos Sepulveda. Yamil Alvarado and Romero Villalvazo had two assists each along with one each from Alex Martinez and John Cintron.

The Cougars district record is 9-1-1 with a big game against 27-5A leader Jay on Saturday at 2:00 at Farris. The Mustangs handed Clark its only loss of the season in the last 23 seconds of their game on January 31st.

Come out and support your Cougars on Saturday vs Jay – seven of the district’s top ten goal scorers will be on the field and four of them are Cougars!

Jair Rodriguez

The Clark boys soccer team exploded for 5 goals against Marshall on Friday while holding the Rams scoreless. The 5-0 victory included 2 goals by Carlos Sepulveda, and one each from Yamil Alvarado, Romero Villalvazo and Mario Perez.  Villalvazo also had two assists in the game along with assists from Jair Rodriguez and John Cintron. The Marshall goalkeeper made 10 saves against a busy Clark attack. This brings the team’s district record to 8-1-1, they are 14-1-3 on the season. Next week they face a tough Brandeis team on Wednesday and then get a chance to avenge their only loss of the season against Jay on Saturday, March 3rd at Farris. Should be two great games!

The Clark girls came up short against Marshall losing 0-1. The girls are still in the playoff hunt, just a game out of 4th place with six games remaining in the the season.

Frances Moore

The Clark boys and girls soccer teams added another notch to their respective win columns on Tuesday with victories over Taft. The girls won 3-2 with goals from Frances Moore, Monique Rempel and Chloe Trevino. Blair Socha helped it happen with 2 assists and goalkeeper Hollis Scheffler had six saves. Their district record is now 5-3-1.

In the boys game the Cougars won 5-3  with a goal and an assist each from Vinnie Guerrero, Yamil Alvarado and Manuel Garcia and goals from Alex Martinez and Tristan Cavazos. Romero Villalvazo and Carlos Sepulveda also had assists. The win brings their district record to 7-1-1.

Both teams play Marshall on Friday at Farris, the girls at 5:00 and boys following at 7:00.

The Clark girls soccer team is on a 4 game district win streak and the boys have won 3 district games in a row following their only loss of the season in the closing seconds against Jay last month. The girls have posted wins against Jay, Warren, Stevens and Holmes by a combined total of 10 goals to one.  The goals have come from Blair Socha (3), Chloe Trevino (3), Monique Rempel, Andrea Romero, Alyssa Jacobs and Bridget Sumner with the tough Cougar defense taking care of the rest. The girls are now 4-2-1 in district play with a match against O’Connor on Friday at Farris at 5:00.

The Clark boys have been a scoring machine, taking the last three district games 14 goals to 2 against Warren, Stevens and Holmes. Netting goals for the Coogs  in just those three district games were Jair Rodriguez, Yamil Alvarado (2), Romero Villalvazo, Chris Miller, Carlos Sepulveda (4), Alex Martinez, Manuel Garcia (2) and John Cintron. Clark is 6-1-0 in district. They play O’Connor on Friday at 7:00 at Farris.

Perez scolds the Huskies

Both Clark varsity basketball teams and soccer teams were victorious in their games in district play.

Perhaps the most dramatic win came as the boys basketball team was down by 2 points with :01 left in their overtime game with Holmes.  Adam Perez floated a three pointer over the Huskie defense to give the Cougars a one point win 49-48.  The boys are currently 3rd in the district standings with 3 games left on the schedule.

On the girls side, Donna Matthews led all scorers with 9 points as Clark easily defeated the Huskies 44-27.  The win gives the Cougars a 19-12 record.  A Clark win in their final game combined with Jay losses in their next two games keeps the Cougars’ playoff hopes alive.

Blair Socha and Chloe Treviño each had a goal to lead the Clark girls soccer team over Warren 2-1.  On the boys side, a 5-2 blowout of the Warriors led by Carlos Sepulveda’s hat trick gave the boys an easy win.

Clark soccer returns to the field today following a big win for the girls over Jay on Tuesday and a heartbreaking loss for the boys. The Clark girls beat Jay 3-0 with goals from Andrea Romero, Alyssa Jacobs and Bridget Sumner – all in the second half. The win brings their district record to 1-2-1. They face Warren today at 5:00 at the Northside fields.

The Clark boys suffered a rare district loss on Tuesday after leading 3-1 at halftime. Jay fought back and hit the winning goal in the last minute of play to win 4-3. Chris Miller scored two goals for the Cougars and Chris Pantaleon scored the other on an assist from Miller in the loss – read more in the Express News. The boys will try to get back on track today at 7:00 against Warren at Northside.
