BASKETBALL WINS; SOCCER KISS THEIR SISTERS

by on Jan.12, 2010, under Basketball, Soccer

A busy schedule of basketball and soccer saw Clark Cougar varsity teams go 2-1-1 in action on the court and the pitch.

The Clark Cougars girl’s basketball team continued their winning ways with a 48-42 victory over Brandeis at the UTSA Convocation Center. The girls were down one point at the end of the first quarter, but staged a balanced effort to come back and take the lead just before the end of the first half, 19-18. Momentum carried the Cougars into the third and fourth quarters for a great win. Carolyn Chavana had 13 points, Courtney Rhodes had 8, Taylor Buck and Vanessa Casanova each had 7, and Hannah Gulley had 6; others scoring included Chloe Rhodes, Melanie Schwartz, Sam Biemer and Kristen Lye.  They are now 18-9 overall, 6-3 in district. Keep up the great work ladies!

The #4 boys basketball team also took care of business, busting the Broncos for a 74-57 win.  The Cougars cruised to a 42-18 halftime lead.  The boys remain undefeated in District 28-5A play.

At Farris Stadium, the boys soccer team took on Reagan and tied the Rattlers 0-0.  On the girl’s side, against Reagan, the Rattlers scored to win 1-0.

JV boys also tied Reagan 0-0.

Several hundred Clark varsity athletes, coaches, parents and friends attended the Clark Athletic Booster Club annual All Sports Banquet.  Each athlete was recognized with the exception of the Water Polo team, who could not attend due to their presence being requested in Dallas where they are competing for a STATE title (Good Luck!).  The highlight of the evening was the awarding of scholarships by the booster club to college-bound seniors.  Each received a $1000 scholarship.  Also recognized was Booster club President Janet Whisenhunt for her efforts and Coach Kevin Hamilton, who retired from coaching after 24 years at Clark to accept a position in the district office.

GIRLS SOCCER ENDS SEASON

by on Mar.29, 2009, under Soccer

But it was the way they did it that we’ll remember. Taking on the #2 team in the country in the 2nd round of the playoffs could be daunting. Not to our girls. They gave ’em all they wanted, taking them to two overtimes and then to a shootout where a close shot wasn’t close enough. The final was a loss but hold your head high, ladies. A great season and a great game. Congratulations for a season worth watching.
