NEW RANKINGS

The latest rankings by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches are out and the Men’s varsity keeps its top twenty ranking despite a loss to Stevens. With a 21-4 record, the Clark Cougars are #19 in the state and remain at #4 in the city according to the Express News. The Men’s varsity soccer team dropped one spot to #4 in the Express News rankings.

In soccer action, the Men’s varsity soccer team beat Brandeis 2-1. Goals were scored by Francisco Garza and Esteban Rodriquez. The Lady Cougar varsity basketball team fell to the Stevens Falcons 67-34.

LADY COUGAR SOCCER TIES

The varsity Lady Cougars soccer team scored first but couldn’t keep the lead as Brandeis took them to a 2-2 tie. NISD does not have shootouts in tie games. Rebekah Richards and Gabrielle Santorio both had goals.

Congratulations to the Lady Cougars freshman basketball team, who down by a point with three seconds to go, stole the inbound pass from Stevens, shot the basket and defeated the Falcons by one for the win. Also, congratulations to the Men’s JV soccer team, who shutout Brandeis 4-0 in district action. The Men’s Freshman Basketball team also won their game against Stevens.

A near capacity crowd at Paul Taylor watched the titans of 28-5A basketball slug it out for district dominance Friday as Clark and Stevens took to the hardwood. Despite a game high 31 pts. from Elhad Emerllahu, the Cougars fell to the Falcons 73-80. That makes the district race even, each team having a loss. The Clark Cougars next face Marshall. If you haven’t had a chance, be sure to read the front page of the January 15th edition of the San Antonio Express News for a story on Clark Varsity Basketball junior Elhad Emerllahu. The team’s leading scorer has had a long journey from his native Kosovo to help lead the men’s team to a #4 city ranking.
RATTLERS STING COUGARS

Both the Men’s and Women’s soccer teams had a tough time, losing to Reagan. The Men’s team lost 2-1 and the ladies were shutout 3-0. District play against Brandeis is next for both teams. The JV also met with similar fates, with the men losing 0-1 and the ladies losing as well.
CLARK MEN #14 IN TEXAS, OVERWHELM BRANDEIS

The latest TABC rankings are out and Clark has moved up to a #14 ranking in Texas. With a game High 37 points, Jordan Brickman led the Clark Men’s Varsity basketball team to a undeniable victory over Brandeis 94-57. That makes it 9 wins in a row for the team and keeps them at the top of the district race with a perfect record. Friday’s showdown against Stevens will go a long way in determining who wins district 28-5A. It should be a barn burner and good luck, guys.

LADY COOGS WIN AGAIN

The Clark women’s varsity basketball team defeated Brandeis in overtime, 51-48. Tied at 44 at the end of regulation, Clark was able to pull away in overtime to post the win. Next up is Stevens on Saturday, Jan. 17. Way to go Lady Coogs!

MEN’S SOCCER TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

With victories over Arlington Heights (4-3 SO), Flour Bluff (4-3 SO) and Alamo Heights (3-2), the Men’s Varsity Soccer team took home the championship trophy from the Alamo Heights soccer tournament. Against Flour Bluff, Austin Maher, Jonathon Lawson and Francisco Garza each scored goals. In the championship game, golas were scored by Lawson, Garza and Luis Hernandez. There is one more non-district game before district play begins.
