COUGARS TIE MARSHALL

The Clark Cougars girls soccer team endured a tough time against a feisty Marshall team but came away with a tie in the District 28-5A match up. Gabrielle Santorio and Alyssa Bloom each scored to avoid the loss to the last place Rams. The tie places the Cougars third in the district standings.
The next game is Tuesday against Jay.
SOCCER SHUTS OUT STEVENS

Goalies and defense made statements in both the girls’ and boys’ varsity soccer games against the Stevens Falcons at the NISD soccer fields.
The boys took a half to get warmed up but once the second half started, the Clark Cougars got three quick goals to blank the Falcons 3-0. Zach Guevara begin the scoring in the 66th minute with a shot to the goal. Three minutes later, Jair Rodriguez took advantage of another Stevens defensive breakdown to make it 2-0. In the 79th minute, Johnny Lawson completed the trifecta with a shot to give the Cougars the 3-0 district win.
The girls didn’t wait near as long in their whipping of Stevens. Goals were scored early and often, with Clark taking a 4-0 lead at halftime. Gabrielle Santorio, Macy Ellis, Alyssa Bloom, Toria Siefert, Francis Moore, Krysta Maples and Andrea Romero each accounted for a nail in the Stevens’ coffin. It was the first district win for the Cougars after a tie in their district opener.

COUGAR BASKETBALL STILL WINNING

What were you doing six weeks ago? Christmas shopping? Looking forward to a winter vacation? For the Clark Cougar boys basketball team, it was the last time they lost a game this season. The result has been a 9 game winning streak; the latest win against the Marshall Rams. The Cougars led the entire game and ended with a 58-42 victory. Their record now stands at 22-5 and 9-0 in district. Jason Brickman ledall scorers with 19, followed by Elhad Emerllahu with 14.
The game was the start of the 2nd round of district foes. The next game is against Jay on Friday.
COUGARS HONORED – TEAMS IN TOP 5

Congratulations to two Clark Cougars who were recognized this week by the Express News. Jason Brickman was named “Player of the Week” in basketball and Brandon VanWagner was named “Player of the Week” in soccer.
The boys varsity team is ranked #3 this week in San Antonio and back in the Top 25 in Texas. The boys varsity soccer team is #3 in San Antonio as well. Congratulations also to the girls varsity soccer team for their top ten ranking in San Antonio this week.

GIRLS BASKETBALL DROPS GAME TO STEVENS

The Clark girls basketball team lost to Stevens 43-35 at Paul Taylor fieldhouse. Carolyn Chavana led the Cougars scoring with 7 points. The loss brings their district record to 6-4 and 18-10 overall. Clark remains in 4th place in district standings.
SOCCER: BOYS OPEN DISTRICT WITH WIN; GIRLS TIE

The Clark boys soccer team scored one goal in the first half of their match with Brandeis and it turned out to be enough to win the game. Luis Hernandez found the back of the net for the goal and then defense, including six saves by goal keeper Brandon Van Wagner and two saves by Jonathan Fargnoli took care of the rest. The Cougars are 4-0-1 on the season so far and now 1-0 in district play.
The girls soccer team had to settle for the third tie of their young season, as they battled Brandeis to a 0-0 score. Clark has a 1-1-3 record this season. Read about the game in the Express News.
The Coogs face Stevens on Tuesday the 19th at 7:00 at Northside field #2. The boys play at 5:00.
CLARK EXPANDS DISTRICT LEAD

The Clark boys basketball team made a Who’s Number One statement at Paul Taylor fieldhouse on Friday night with a solid win over the second place Stevens Falcons by a score of 71-64. The win gives the Cougars a two game lead over Stevens and Taft in the district race. Leading all scorers was Jason Brickman who had 27 points, Ansley Benjamin put in 12 and Sam Perez scored 11.

Texas Sports Radio Network , which broadcast the game, named Brickman its Player of the Game.

SOCCER PLAYERS HONORED BY EXPRESS NEWS

Congratulations to Jair Rodriquez, Johnny Lawson and Luis Hernandez. They were recognized in this week’s “Game Balls” section of the Express News for their efforts in helping Clark go 3-0 in the Klein Tournament. The boys team is 3-0-1 on the year and take on Brandeis on Friday.
BASKETBALL WINS; SOCCER KISS THEIR SISTERS

A busy schedule of basketball and soccer saw Clark Cougar varsity teams go 2-1-1 in action on the court and the pitch.
The Clark Cougars girl’s basketball team continued their winning ways with a 48-42 victory over Brandeis at the UTSA Convocation Center. The girls were down one point at the end of the first quarter, but staged a balanced effort to come back and take the lead just before the end of the first half, 19-18. Momentum carried the Cougars into the third and fourth quarters for a great win. Carolyn Chavana had 13 points, Courtney Rhodes had 8, Taylor Buck and Vanessa Casanova each had 7, and Hannah Gulley had 6; others scoring included Chloe Rhodes, Melanie Schwartz, Sam Biemer and Kristen Lye. They are now 18-9 overall, 6-3 in district. Keep up the great work ladies!
The #4 boys basketball team also took care of business, busting the Broncos for a 74-57 win. The Cougars cruised to a 42-18 halftime lead. The boys remain undefeated in District 28-5A play.
At Farris Stadium, the boys soccer team took on Reagan and tied the Rattlers 0-0. On the girl’s side, against Reagan, the Rattlers scored to win 1-0.
JV boys also tied Reagan 0-0.
