CLARK SOCCER SET BACK
by Fan4Clark on Mar.08, 2011, under Soccer
The Clark boys soccer team suffered their first district loss of the season on Tuesday at Northside. The second place Warren Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the first half and finished the game with a second half goal for a 2-0 win.
The loss does not affect Clark’s hold on first place in the district.
On the girls side, Clark came away with a 2-2 tie against Warren. Blair Socha and Andrea Romero scored for the Cougars.
BASEBALL, SOFTBALL AND #1 SOCCER RANKED
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Mar.08, 2011, under Baseball, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Swimming and Diving, Water Polo
Three Clark Cougar varsity sports are in this week’s Express News rankings.
Since the first soccer ranking came out in preseason, the Clark boys soccer team has been ranked #1 in the San Antonio area. Tonight they play Warren. A win in that game would be a big step towards a district championship. The Cougars are currently undefeated in district play.
The Clark softball team moved up to #6 in the rankings from #10 last week. After a tough 1-0 loss to Taft as the very first game of the season (whose idea was that?), the Cougars have gelled and come storming through the district and are on a 8 game win streak.
A good showing in the NEISD tournament helped propel Clark baseball into the top 10 this week for the first time this season. Clark is the only ranked NISD team.
And even though they don’t rank them, the golf team has shown some great growth since the beginning of the season and the water polo teams, always a perennial state tournament team, start play this week.
IT’S A GOOD DAY TO BE A CLARK COUGAR!
CLARK ALUM IN SPOTLIGHT AND ESPN
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Mar.07, 2011, under Basketball
Jason Brickman, a 2010 Clark varsity basketball alum, has had a good week. As a freshman point guard for Long Island University, he hit two crucial free throws with seconds left in the game to send the Blackbirds to the Northeast Conference championship game. The highlight was on ESPN’s SportsCenter. Before that game, his coach compared him to John Stockton.
Thanks to his efforts, you can catch Jason on ESPN2 this Wednesday night at 6:00pm (local) where he will be playing for a trip to the NCAA tournament. You can read more about him in this article touting his “rookie of the year” status with his teammates and coaches or this article recapping the previous game and his career high 16 pts. and game winning shot.
WAY TO GO – ER – BLACKBIRD! GOOD LUCK AND WE’RE PROUD YOU’RE A COUGAR!

The Clark Cougar varsity soccer team, #1 in the Express News since pre-season, continued their winning ways with a hard fought victory over John Jay, 2-1.
With the wind at their backs for the first half, Jay struck first at 36:24. The Cougars responded 7 minutes later, when Vinnie Guerrero hit the back of the net following a corner kick by Clark. In the second half, Clark spent more time attacking the Jay goal. Another corner kick at the 81:30 resulted in the go ahead goal for the Cougars when Carlos Sepulveda dove with a header to keep Clark undefeated in district play.
This is the 8th consecutive week the Clark boys soccer team has been ranked #1 by the Express News.

In what could be a NISD instant classic, the Clark Cougars varsity boys basketball team lost on a last second shot to the Taft Raiders in the third round of this year’s playoffs. A low scoring game full of missed opportunities, Taft advances to the regional tournament with a 35-33 win over Clark.
Before the game started, Clark was already behind as Taft was awarded a 2 shot technical foul which put the Cougars down 2-0. Taft then went up 4-0 before Niko Maxwell drove to the bucket for two. A Taft three pointer as the buzzer ended the first quarter was a sign of things to come as the Raiders led 14-8.
The Cougars roared back and tied the game at 14 apiece with six minutes left before the half but could never get a lead. Four straight offensive rebounds by Taft at the end of the half helped them maintain a lead, going into the locker room 21-17 over Clark. (continue reading…)
CLARK BEATS BRANDEIS
by Fan4Clark on Mar.02, 2011, under Soccer
The only blemish thus far on the Clark boys soccer district record is a 1-1 tie against Brandeis back in January. On Tuesday night the Cougars set things right with a 2-0 victory over the broncos. The #1 ranked Cougars snagged both goals in the first half – one coming off the foot of Carlos Sepulveda and the other from John Bruce. Oscar Barboza continues to set up his teammates as he gets credit for both assists. Barboza and the Coog’s leading scorer, Johnny Lawson, lead the San Antonio area in assists – Barboza now with 20 and Lawson (continue reading…)
