COUGARS TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS; RAMS
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Jan.31, 2013, under Basketball
Gearing up for the playoffs, the Clark Cougars girls varsity basketball team took one step closer to securing a playoff spot by beating Marshall 81-57. With two games left in the season, the wheels would have to come off for Clark to miss the post-season.
Like most of the Cougars wins, it was a track meet, with fast breaks and lots of scoring – and lots of Cougars scoring. It was the third time this year the Cougars topped 80 points. Consistent 3 point shooting and a rebound and run to the basket offense kept the Rams on their heels all night. Kirsten Kramer, Trei Torain and Mercedes Orozco led the scoring but certainly weren’t the only ones racking up points in the boxscore. Coach Richard Herbst was able to play most if not all of the team without an offensive letdown in the victory.

CLARK SOCCER UNLOADS ON STEVENS
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Jan.25, 2013, under Soccer
The Clark girls soccer team struck early and often on Friday keeping the Stevens goalkeeper busy with 22 saves. There were also plenty of Cougar shots in the back of the net as Clark dominated in a 5-0 victory. Monique Rempel had two goals and Alyssa Jacobs, Lexi Platz and Andrea Del Valle came away with one each. Adding assists were Frances Moore, Kendall Traa, Kallie Doherty and Caroline Veltman. The defense secured the shutout as Kendall Kotara and Katie Troilo split time in goal.
The win evens Clark’s district record at 1-1 and brings them to 5-4-2 for the season so far.
Following the girls’ victory the boys team had a shut out of their own beating Steven 2-0. Jaron Bustillo-Pineda scored both goals for the Cougars and Manuel Garcia assisted both times. Clark is still undefeated at 1-0-1 in district play and 6-0-2 for the season.

BASKETBALL ROUND UP: CLARK GIRLS DEFEAT BRANDEIS – AGAIN
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Jan.24, 2013, under Basketball
The Clark girls basketball team got a big district win over Brandeis on Wednesday defeating the broncos 48-44. It was not as large as the Cougar’s 64-50 win earlier in the season, but strategically important as playoffs near. D’onna Matthews led Clark with 10 points, followed closely by Trei Torain’s 9 points. Also scoring were Gabby Aguilar (7), Alejandra Esparza (6), Kirsten Kramer (5), Ria Gulley (5), Sarah Flournoy (3) and Mercedes Orozco (3).
Clark is 20-9 this season and 8-4 in district play. They are in 4th place in the standings just behind 9-4 Brandeis with 4 games remaining and 5th place Marshall just two games behind.
Up next is a big game against Jay at 7:30 on Friday in the O’Connor gym. Jay is undefeated in district play.
The Clark boys, in the middle of a tough season, will also be at OC on Friday taking on Jay at 6:00.

by envisionfilmvideo.com on Jan.23, 2013, under Soccer
The #3 Clark Cougars boys varsity soccer team took on #6 O’Connor in a great match in District 27-5A play. Clark was the aggressor in the first half and that style of play gave them a 1-0 lead with a little over 22 minutes played. Jaron Pineda scored on the Panthers from 3 yards out. The second half, however, was a different story as O’Connor had faster feet and were the ones attacking. Clark held off until late in the game as the Panthers scored with 4 minutes left to end the game in a tie.
In the girls game that followed, Clark played strong but ended up losing 1-0.

GIRLS BASKETBALL ON HOT STREAK!
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Jan.10, 2013, under Basketball
Early in the season, Coach Richard Herbst knew the Clark Cougars girls basketball team had real potential. He was right. The Cougars defeated O’Connor 56-32 for their 6th district win of the season and their 7th win out of the last eight games played. The victory also avenged an early season loss to the Panthers and gives the Cougars a solid 3rd place standing in the district race with the 2nd half of the season underway.
D’onna Matthews, Gabby Aquilar and Kristen Kramer led the Cougars offensively in the win. Defensively, the Cougars held O’Connor to three periods of single digit scoring. The Cougars next take on Stevens, currently 2nd in district, Friday evening at Paul Taylor at 7pm.
Great Job, Ladies! Keep it up.
