COUGARS TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS; RAMS

Tre Torain

Torain terrific in win

Gearing up for the playoffs, the Clark Cougars girls varsity basketball team took one step closer to securing a playoff spot by beating Marshall 81-57.  With two games left in the season, the wheels would have to come off for Clark to miss the post-season.

Like most of the Cougars wins, it was a track meet, with fast breaks and lots of scoring – and lots of Cougars scoring.  It was the third time this year the Cougars topped 80 points.  Consistent 3 point shooting and a rebound and run to the basket offense kept the Rams on their heels all night.  Kirsten Kramer, Trei Torain and Mercedes Orozco led the scoring but certainly weren’t the only ones racking up points in the boxscore.  Coach Richard Herbst was able to play most if not all of the team without an offensive letdown in the victory.

BASKETBALL ROUND UP: CLARK GIRLS DEFEAT BRANDEIS – AGAIN

by on Jan.24, 2013, under Basketball

Kirsten Kramer

Kirsten Kramer

The Clark girls basketball team got a big district win over Brandeis on Wednesday defeating the broncos 48-44. It was not as large as the Cougar’s 64-50 win earlier in the season, but strategically important as playoffs near. D’onna Matthews led Clark with 10 points, followed closely by Trei Torain’s 9 points. Also scoring were Gabby Aguilar (7), Alejandra Esparza (6), Kirsten Kramer (5), Ria Gulley (5), Sarah Flournoy (3) and Mercedes Orozco (3).

Clark is 20-9 this season and 8-4 in district play. They are in 4th place in the standings just behind 9-4 Brandeis with 4 games remaining and 5th place Marshall just two games behind.

Up next is a big game against Jay at 7:30 on Friday in the O’Connor gym. Jay is undefeated in district play.

The Clark boys, in the middle of a tough season, will also be at OC on Friday taking on Jay at 6:00.

Get out and support your Cougars!

GO COOGS!!!!

GIRLS BASKETBALL ON HOT STREAK!

by on Jan.10, 2013, under Basketball

Clark Cougar basketball girls

Ladies winning often

Early in the season, Coach Richard Herbst knew the Clark Cougars girls basketball team had real potential.  He was right.  The Cougars defeated O’Connor 56-32 for their 6th district win of the season and their 7th win out of the last eight games played.  The victory also avenged an early season loss to the Panthers and gives the Cougars a solid 3rd place standing in the district race with the 2nd half of the season underway.

D’onna Matthews, Gabby Aquilar and Kristen Kramer led the Cougars offensively in the win.  Defensively, the Cougars held O’Connor to three periods of single digit scoring.   The Cougars next take on Stevens, currently 2nd in district, Friday evening at Paul Taylor at 7pm.

Great Job, Ladies!  Keep it up.
