THREE HEAD TO COLLEGE GRIDIRON
by envisionfilmvideo.com on May.10, 2012, under Uncategorized
Congratulations to Manny Menezes, Nate Barrientez and Tri-Rice Van Buren who all signed with Texas colleges to continue their football careers.
Manny will be attending Trinity University. Excited to be playing for a quality program, Manny also was looking forward to a top education. “I’m very excited about it and very excited to play four more years of football. The team won their conference last year and got rings and that’s pretty cool and the academics there is great, too. To come out of there with a degree would be a great thing to have and I’m looking forward to that, too.” Currently undecided on his major, Manny is leaning toward pre-med studies. Manny is the son of Sharon and Lewis Menezes.
Nate Barrientez is jumping up to Sherman, Texas to play for the Austin College Kangaroos. Expected to play outside linebacker, Nate was impressed by the football program. “I visited a couple of times and really enjoyed the campus, the coaches there, and the teaching philosophy of how the coaches coach and the players and everything. It was really nice. It was small…but I like small towns.” Nate plans to study pre-engineering and then transfer to Texas A&M to complete a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He is the son of Norma Rae and Matt Barrientez.
Playing at former head coach Lloyd Alexander’s alma mater, Tri-Rice Van Buren will be playing for former Clark offensive coordinator Danny Padron at Texas Lutheran College. “I wanted to go and play football somewhere and not not end my football career in high school. So I’m really happy about that. I really like the environment and the coach was here and a Cougar once so I know we have that connection.” Tri-Rice will study Sports Medicine at TLC. He is the son of Martin and Jaekel Van Buren.
Congratulations to these Cougars and GOOD LUCK!

The Clark volleyball team is looking forward to the second season after clinching its spot in the playoffs. The Cougars will likely face Corpus Christi Carroll or Corpus Christi King in the first round, possibly on November 1st.
There’s still regular season business to take care of though and Clark could have been looking ahead a bit during Friday’s game against Holmes, escaping the gym with a 3-2 victory. Clark dropped the first two games 16-25 and 19-25 before taking the next two games 25-22 and 25-21 and then winning the tie breaker 15-8. Marcella Arellano led the team with 19 kills, 34 digs and 3 serving aces. Jenn Garrett had 17 kills and Abby Glosup continued to shine with a whopping 62 assists in the five game match up. Nicole Rehm had 34 digs and an ace and Jenn Garrett and Rosalyn Velasquez teamed up for 1.5 blocks each.
The last regular season game is against O’Connor on Tuesday at 7:00 at Paul Taylor.

That’s right! Clark has a bowling team, including varsity boys and girls teams as well as JV. They play for a district tile, have 14 matches, and even have uniforms (hopefully those cool shirts…). And this year is just down the alley with tryouts coming up. Tryouts are Oct. 1-2 and 8-10. If you’re interested, contact the Cougar Bowling Club at 663-9477 or 523-1716 and ask for, that’s right, Joe.
