COUGARS RECORD SEASON BESTS

The last track meet before District, held at Judson on Thursday, April 8th, resulted in several season best (SB) performances. For the Girls, Luisa Garza was 3rd in the 100m dash (12:53 – SB), Glynnis Meade 2nd in the 3200m (12:12.6), and Shantel Swift was 2nd in the Long Jump (17′ 4″) and the Triple Jump (36′ 9″ – SB). The Girls 4x100m Relay team topped the field in 48.2, and the 4x400m Relay team was 6th in 4:07 (SB).
For the Boys, Ryan Jones was 5th in the 100m dash (10:09), Hayden Greenbauer 1st in the 110m Hurdles (14:52), Joe Vasquez 5th in the 200m Dash (22:13), Sam Perez 3rd in the 400m Dash (50.89 SB), David Scorcelletti 3rd (4:39.2- SB) and Austin Wells 5th (4:43.11 SB) in the 1600m Run, . The 4x100m Relay team was 4th in 42.5 (SB), the 4x200m Relay team 2nd in 1:28.8 (SB) and the 4x400m Relay team 5th in 3:27.2 (SB).
COUGAR TRACK AT TEXAS RELAYS AND SAISD

The Varsity Track Team was split this week, with the relay teams headed to Austin to participate in the Texas Relays on Friday/Saturday, and the rest taking part in the SAISD meet on Thursday, April 1st. Here in town, David Scorcelletti (10:08.14) and Glynnis Meade (12:21) both finished 4th in their respective 3200m races, and Jose Sierra was 6th in the 800m run (2:03.6).
Out of town, the relays gained valuable experience running against some incredible competition. None made the finals, but the Girls 4x200m relay team (Triniqua Collins, Shaneve Swift, Esjah Booker, Shantel Swift) ran a season best 1:43.93 (heat 2), and the 4x100m relay team (Louisa Garza, Shaneve, Esjah and Shantel) placed 29th out of 82 teams in 43:43 (heat 6). The Boys 4x200m team (Travis Cooke, Hayden Greenbauer, Ryan Jones, Joe Vasquez) were running well and then dropped the baton (heat 1), and the same team completed the 4x100m relay in 43:43 (heat 4). COUGARS TRACK RESULTS FROM ALAMO RELAYS

The Cougar Track Team didn’t have far to go as they took part in NISD’s Alamo Relays at Gus stadium on Saturday, March 27th. The Varsity Boys tied for 4th place out of 15 teams, and the Girls finished 5th out of 17 teams. Leading the way for the Girls was Shaneve Swift’s 1st place in the 400m Dash (56.63), followed by 2nd place for Shantel Swift in the 200m Dash (25.63), 2nd place for the 4x200m Relay team (Triniqua Collins, Shantel, Esjah Booker, Louisa Garza – 1:44.4), 3rd place for the 4x100m Relay team (Louisa, Shaneve, Esjah, Shantel), and 5th place for Glynnis Meade in the 3200m Run (12:06.8). The Boys 4x200m Relay ran away with 1st place in 1:30.5 (Travis Cooke, Ryan Jones, Hayden Greenbauer, Joe Vasquez) after placing 3rd for the 4x100m relay (42.88). Sam Perez pulled off a comeback in the final straightaway to finish 2nd in the 800m run (1:58.9), and Hayden was 2nd in the 110m Hurdles (14.14). COUGARS PLACE AT HARLANDALE

A warm day at Harlandale’s Memorial Stadium resulted in the Varsity Cougar track team posting several strong performaces on Saturday, March 13th, as the Boys finished 3rd out of 17 teams and the Girls 4th out of 15 teams. Pictures are available at http://saclarktrack.shutterfly.com.

COUGAR TRACK ATHLETES FASTEST IN SAN ANTONIO

Clark appears several time on the first Track Area Leaders list for the 2010 season. Hayden Greenbauer has the top time for the 110m hurdles (14:38), Shantel Swift is 2nd for Long Jump (17-10 1/2) and Shaneve Swift is 3rd for the 200m dash. The Girls 400m (Triniqua Collins, Shaneve, Esjah Booker, Luisa Garza) and 800m ((Triniqua, Shaneve, Esjah, Shantel) relay teams are the FASTEST around, 49.15 and 1:44.25 respectively. Congrats to all!
COUGARS TAKE TO TRACK AND FIELD

South San Relays
March 4th and 5th found the Varsity Track teams back on the new track at South San High School for a big meet – 31 girls teams and 32 boys teams. Prelims were run on Thursday night, making the finals on Friday very exciting. The Cougar Girls finished an amazing 3rd overall, winning both the 4x100m (Triniqua Collins, Shaneve Swift, Esjah Booker, Luisa Garza – 49.15) and 4x200m (Triniqua, Shaneve, Esjah, Shantel Swift – 1:44.3) relays, with more points added by Shaneve, 2nd in the 200m dash (25.62), Shantel, 5th in the 800m (2:28.2) and 3rd in the long jump (16′ 4.5″), and Glynnis Meade, 4th in the 3200m (12:06.99). The Cougar Boys also finished well given the high level of competition, placing 8th as a team. Hayden Greenbauer was 1st in the 110m hurdles (14.38), the 4x100m relay team was 4th (Sam Perez, Ryan Jones, Hayden, Joe Vasquez – 43.68) and 4x200m relay team was 3rd (Sam, Ryan, Hayden, Joe – 1:30.5).
Cardinal Relays
UIW hosted the inaugural running of this Relays only track meet on a windy Friday, February 26th. The Girls Varsity team finished 4th out of 15 schools – impressive considering we only participated in a few events. They won the 4x100m relay (49.56) and the Distance Medley (1200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m – 13:43) and were 2nd in the 4x200m relay (1:47.3). The Varsity Boys were 5th out of 17 schools. The Boys 4x100m Weight Man team was 1st (49.5), Sprint Medley (100m, 100m, 200m, 400m – 1:43.7) 2nd, 4x100m 3rd (44.91), 4x200m 4th (1:33.9), and 4x800m 6th (9:20.1). Their Distance Medley team finished 5th (11.54.1) after having the baton accidentally kicked out of our hands during an exchange. The other events were the 4x400m, 4x1600m, and the wild and crazy 4x100m Shuttle Hurdle Relay.

The Varsity Track and Field teams fared well at their first meet of the season on Thursday, February 18th. Held at South San High School’s new track, the Girls placed 4th and the Boys 5th out of 14 teams. We had several first place finishes – way to go Cougars!

COUGAR ACCELERATES IN NATIONAL MEET

Sam Perez, a varsity Clark track athlete, participated in the AAU National Track and Field meet at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa this week. He placed 42nd out of 65 athletes (Young Men’s division) in the 800m run prelims with a time of 2:04. The top 12 moved on to the Finals. He reached the meet by qualifying 2nd in the Regional meet with a time of 2:01.74. He placed 18th at Regionals in the 400m with a time of 54.10.

Shantel Swift, 2nd in the 400m, 58.81; 7th in the 800m, 2:28.62; 1st in Long Jump, 17ft, 11 inches; 2nd in Triple Jump, 36 feet (Intermediate division) but was unable to attend the National meet

COUGARS COMPETE AT REGIONAL TRACK MEET

Clark’s varsity track season ended with the Region IV track meet held Friday and Saturday at Alamo Stadium. Shantel Swift and Hayden Greenbauer highlighted individual accomplishments in the finals with Shantel taking 4th place in the girls 800M, while Hayden did the same in the boys 110M hurdles. The girls 1600M relay team also took 4th place. The boys 1600m relay team dropped almost 2 seconds to set a PR with several boys turning in their best splits ever, but fell just short of making the finals placing 9th overall (a significant improvement from their 18th place seeding prior to the meet).
CLARK TRACK SUCCESSFUL AT REGIONAL QUALIFIER

Clark’s track athletes who qualified for Regionals traveled to Fredericksburg this Friday to participate in the Regional Qualifiers Track Meet. This meet acts as a warm-up to the Regional Track Meet on May 1st and 2nd. Gusty winds made for interesting times as sometimes they helped and other times they hindered. Clark’s Varsity girls and boys did well, with the following results.
