CLARK BASEBALL & SOFTBALL ALL DISTRICT HONORS

Following successful seasons for both teams Clark baseball placed 10 players on the All District team and 7 Clark softball players made their All District squad.
For softball: Henessey Soto and Dani Nash were unanimous 1st team picks. Also making 1st team were Megan Martinez, Britney Ramos and Liz Rodriguez. Named to 2nd Team All District were Megan Aragones and Jeslene Renteria.
For baseball: Pitcher Chris Werland, Infielders Jason Cervantes and Hunter McFall, Outfielder Robert Martin, Catcher Braden Mattson and Utility Matt Cohen were all named 1st Team All District.
Infielder Chad Dullnig and Outfielder Ed Moore made 2nd Team All District and Ryan Skowronski and John Henderson were Honorable Mention All District.
SOFTBALL SENIORS SIGN

Clark softball is sending at least three players into the college ranks next season. In a ceremony before a packed house of friends and family on Thursday, seniors Megan Martinez, Megan Aragones and Dani Nash all signed on to play college ball. Megan Martinez, who played 3rd base for the Cougars, will head to Mississippi Valley State next year. Megan is the daughter of Isabella Meza and she’ll study Biology Pre-Med in college. Megan Aragones, a utility player and pitcher for Clark, will play at the University of Texas at Dallas where she’ll study Kinesiology. Megan is the daughter of Anne Herrera and Chip Aragones. Dani Nash, who plays in the outfield, signed with Navarro College in Corsicana. She plans to get her Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies while there. Dani is the daughter of Elaine and Tod Nash.
Clark coach D’Layne Kelly said the three had worked hard for this moment and she was proud of each one of them.
PLAYOFFS AND REGIONAL TRACK

Clark’s district champion baseball team steps into the playoffs this week beginning on Thursday against Southwest. The play off schedule looks like this: Thursday, May 5, 7:30 at Northside #2; Friday, May 6, 7:30 at Southwest. If game 3 is necessary, Saturday, May 7, time TBA at NS#2.
The playoffs ended too soon for Clark’s softball team. Following a close opening loss, 8-7, on Friday against East Central, the Cougars had a big win in the second game, 15-4, but lost another close one, 6-4, immediately after that. Congratulations, though, on what was a great season.
Clark is sending several athletes to the Regional Track and Field Meet at Alamo Stadium beginning today and concluding on Tuesday.

PLAYOFFS AND RIVALRIES – TAKE YOUR PICK

Clark softball opens their 2011 playoff run with a 7:00pm game against East Central tonight at Northside field. It’s the first of a 3 game series that will be continued at East Central tomorrow at noon with a third game to follow immediately, if necessary. This is the 4th consecutive season that Clark’s softball program, led by Coach D’Layne Kelly, has been to the playoffs.
At 7:30 tonight, also at Northside, Clark’s District Champion baseball team plays its final regular season game against O’Connor. O’Connor is battling to maintain its second place spot in district. Playoffs begin next week against either Southwest or South San.
So pick your Cougar game or run between both! GO COOGS!!
SOFTBALL READY FOR PLAYOFFS

For the 4th year in a row the Clark softball team is heading into the playoffs. The Cougars finished 3rd in district and will face East Central in a best of three series. The schedule looks like this:
Game 1 – Friday, April 29 – 7:00 @ Northside Field 1
Game 2 – Saturday, April 30 – 12:00 noon @ East Central HS
Game 3 – if necessary – 30 minutes after game 2
Make plans to attend and cheer the girls on!
CLARK SHUTS OUT STEVENS

The Clark softball team blanked Stevens on Friday 7-0, but waited until the 5th inning to make it happen. Clark and Stevens were locked in a scoreless tie until the 5th when the Cougars bats woke up and 6 runs were scored. They added one more run in the 6th and held off Stevens throughout to get the win. Pitcher Henessey Soto picked up her 13th win of the season.
With two games remaining in the regular season Clark has secured a playoff spot. Holmes is up next on Tuesday at 7:00.

CLARK SOFTBALL WHIPS WARREN

The Cougars softball team secured an 8-1 win over Warren on Tuesday. Clark spread its runs almost evenly through the game scoring in every inning except the 2nd. The Cougars had 14 hits to Warren’s 3. Henessey Soto was on the mound and gets her 12th win of the season. Soto is batting .542 on the season followed by Megan Martinez at .452 and Dani Nash at .442.
The Cougars are in 3rd place in District, but just a half game behind 2nd place Taft. Next up is Stevens on Friday at 7:00pm at Northside.
SOFTBALL KNOCKS OFF BRANDEIS

Clark softball beat Brandeis 5-3 on Tuesday at Northside. The victory means Clark takes sole possession of 3rd place in district with an 8-3 record. Henessey Soto was on the mound for the Cougars and gets her 12th win of the season. The team had 8 hits during the game.
Up next for the Cougars is a game against Jay on Friday at 5:00.
SOFTBALL SLAPS MARSHALL

The Clark softball team got back to its high scoring ways with a 12-1 victory over Marshall last Friday. The Coogs scored 6 runs in the 3rd and another 6 in the 4th to take the win. They had 14 hits in the game and 1 error. Henessey Soto was on the mound for her 11th win of the season.
Up next is a big game against Brandeis on Tuesday the 29th at 7 pm. Clark and Brandeis are tied for 3rd place in District 27-5A with identical 7-3 district records.
