BASEBALL FINISHES SEASON WITH WIN; PLAYOFFS NEXT

by on May.08, 2009, under Baseball

Waiting an extra week to finish the regular season didn’t hurt the Clark baseball team. The Cougars jumped on the Huskies in the first with two runs, added three more in the third off a Trey Doebbler home run by with two on and took the game against Holmes by a score of 8-2. Braden Mattson also homered in the sixth with one on.  After early predictions it would be a so-so season for the Cougars, Clark finishes in 2nd place in District 28-5A and heads into the Bi-District round of the playoffs  next week.

UIL POSTPONES SPRING SPORTS FINALES

by on Apr.30, 2009, under Spring Sports

The University Interscholastic League has decided not to cancel the regional track meet originally scheduled for May 1-2. The UIL initially said the State meet would be expanded with the top four finishers in each event from each Region participating and the Regional meets were not to be held at all due to concerns about the swine flu virus. After working with the University of Texas, the site for the state meet, along with the regional meet sites the new plan is to hold the Region IV 5A-4A meet on May 15-16 at Alamo Stadium.  The state meet has been scheduled for June 5-6.

Remaining games and playoffs for baseball and softball have also been postponed along with all other UIL sports and academic competitions.

Several hundred Clark varsity athletes, coaches, parents and friends attended the Clark Athletic Booster Club annual All Sports Banquet.  Each athlete was recognized with the exception of the Water Polo team, who could not attend due to their presence being requested in Dallas where they are competing for a STATE title (Good Luck!).  The highlight of the evening was the awarding of scholarships by the booster club to college-bound seniors.  Each received a $1000 scholarship.  Also recognized was Booster club President Janet Whisenhunt for her efforts and Coach Kevin Hamilton, who retired from coaching after 24 years at Clark to accept a position in the district office.
