CHAMPIONS!

Clark baseball defeated Holmes 13-2 in 5 innings of play to become District Champs for the second time in school history. Once again the story of the game was the Clark bats – and what a story they told. Clark had a total of 12 hits for the game with several standouts. Coming into the 3rd inning, Ed Moore led off with a double. He was followed at the plate by John Henderson who hit a double and scored Moore. Next up was Jason Cervantes who singled. Hunter McFall stepped into the batters box and hit a sacrifice to deep center to score Henderson. Braden Mattson was up next and on a 1 ball, 1 strike count, hit a bomb over the left center field fence. The inning ended with the score, Clark 4, Holmes 2. In the 4th inning, the bats continued to crack. With 2 outs , and 3 runners on base, McFall stepped into the batters box and delivered a single that drove in Moore and Henderson, leaving McFall and Cervantes on base. Mattson stepped into the box and delivered a deep double to left field fence, which scored the base runners. Chad Dullnig reached base on an error which also scored Mattson. The 4th inning ended with a score Clark 9, Holmes 2. In the 5th inning, Robert Martin led off with a walk, and scored on a double by Moore. Henderson got on base with a walk and Cervantes single scored him. McFall singled to score Cervantes and the Cougars quickly had 4 more runs. Starting on the mound for the Cougars was Ryan Skowronski who pitched 2 innings, giving up 2 runs. (continue reading…)
BASEBALL GOES FOR CHAMPIONSHIP

Clark baseball has a chance to win sole possession of the District 27-5A Championship tonight with a win over Holmes. They own a 2 game lead over second place O’Connor so with two games remaining in the regular season they can win the crown tonight or next week in the finale against O’Connor. Game time is 7:30 tonight at Northside Field #2.

BASEBALL HAS BLAST AGAINST STEVENS

Thursday night, Clark defeated Stevens 6-2 to remain in 1st place in District and is now assured of at least a share of the District Championship. The Falcons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning – but those were the last runs that Clark allowed. In the 2nd inning, Clark bats responded. Matt Cohen started off the inning with a single. Chris Werland moved Cohen to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt. Robert Martin stepped into the batters box and with a 1 ball, 2 strike count, hit a home run over the left field fence – scoring himself and Cohen. Next up was Ed Moore who hit a blooper between the pitcher and 2nd baseman and he beat out the throw to 1st base. (continue reading…)

BASEBALL COMES FROM BEHIND TO WIN

Clark Baseball picked up its 11th District win of the season on Friday beating Jay 14-9. The game got off to a rough start with Clark errors and a bases loaded grand slam in the top of the 3rd inning leaving Clark facing an 8-0 deficit. Clark slowly began to battle back, scoring 3 runs in the 3rd inning and 2 runs in the 4th. But Clark really woke up in the bottom of the 6th inning – recording 9 runs to take the lead. Starting on the mound for the Cougars was Chad Dullnig, who pitched 2 2/3 innings. Chris Werland came in to bring the 3rd inning to a close and pitched the 4th-6th inning, giving up only 1 run. Matt Cohen came in to close the game in the top of the 7th inning and got 3 quick outs. Clark had a total of 15 hits for the game. Notables: Jason Cervantes went 4-4, with a 2-run home run. Hunter McFall, Braden Mattson, Werland, and Robert Martin each had 2 hits, with Dullnig, Cohen, and Ryan Skowronski with one hit each.
Clark remains in 1st place in District and will face Warren on Tue, Apr 12 at 4:45pm on NS#2.

BASEBALL STARTS 2ND HALF WITH WIN

Clark Baseball won their 9th district game beating Marshall 10-9 in 7 tough innings of play. The Rams and Cougars came out hitting, tied 1-1 after the first inning. Ram bats stayed hot in the next two innings, scoring three more runs. In the bottom of the 4th, Clark bats woke up with 5 hits, including a 3-run home run by Hunter McFall, ending the inning Clark 5-Marshall 4.
Marshall responded in the 5th inning, scoring twice. 5 runs by Clark ended the inning, Clark 10 – Marshall 6. (continue reading…)
CERVANTES SIGNS

Clark baseball shortstop Jason Cervantes has signed an NAIA Letter of Intent with Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. With his parents, Roger and Patricia, looking on Jason thanked his Clark teammates for their support. Jason was also considering offers from McMurray University, Cisco College and Alvin Junior College, among others.
Jason is a second generation Clark Cougar. His father was a classmate of Clark Baseball Coach Aldo Velazquez. Jason will study Kinesiology at Briar Cliff and play ball for Coach Boyd Pitkin.

Clark baseball defeated O’Connor 5-3 in extra innings. This puts Clark in first place in district heading into the second half of the season.
O’Connor took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd, but Clark came back in the top of the 3rd with a score by Jason Cervantes. Neither team scored in the 4th inning, but when Clark came up to bat in the 5th, Ed Moore hit a double to deep center field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hunter McFall, and the inning ended with the score Clark 2, O’Connor 1.
In the 7th inning, Devin Haley drew a walk, was advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice by Robert Martin and scored when Ryan Skowronski hit a single. Clark went into the bottom of the 7th inning with the lead, 3-1. O’Connor responded with two home runs to even the score and send the game to extra innings. (continue reading…)
