Clark flys higher than Falcons

The Clark Cougar varsity volleyball team evened their district record with a win over Stevens 3-1.  Kelly Cavanaugh had 39 assists, Meagan Moe delivered 20 kills to go with Shelby MacKenzie’s 14, and Shelby had 19 digs as did Carly Harr.

A quick rest and then the girls are back at it in the NEISD tournament against Johnson, Boerne Champion and Steele beginning at 9am.

Both the JV and Freshman teams also won. Way to go ladies!

COUGARS FALL IN DISTRICT OPENER

Meagan Moe returns Panther serve

The Clark Cougar volleyball team took a set to get started, played a set well, won a set but couldn’t overcome their slow start in the season’s district opener.  Clark fell to O’Connor 9-25, 22-25, 24-23 and 15-25.  Shelby MacKenzie had 9 kills and 17 digs, Kelly Cavanaugh set up the Cougars with 26 assists, while Meagan Moe had 13 kills and Madison Woods served 3 aces and tallied 28 digs.

The Cougars next play Thursday against Stevens.

COUGARS IN CHAMP BRACKET

The Clark Cougar varsity volleyball squad took two out of three matches in the opening day of the NISD tournament.  The wins, against East Central and O’Connor(2), send them to the championship bracket starting at 9am where they will face district rival O’Connor.  Regardless to the tournament outcome, the two teams will face off against each other three days later in district play.

Today’s lone loss was agaBudapest Hays.

VOLLEYBALL KICKS OFF SEASON WITH A WIN

The 2012 version of Clark volleyball started the season with a bang, knocking off #6 Johnson 25-20, 25-21, 25-27, 24-26, 15-11 at O’Connor. Meagan Moe posted 19 kills, Kelly Cavanaugh had 55 assists and Madison Woods had 31 digs.  Katie Mattson and Carly Harr each had 3 blocks.

The Cougars next face Churchill in their annual showdown. Information can be found on the calendar. A great start, ladies! Go Coogs!

The 2012-13 Clark athletic season kicks off today with the varsity volleyball team taking on the Johnson Jaguars at 7pm at O’Connor.  Also, don’t forget about football season tickets going on sale today at 6pm at Clark.

FALL HONORS

Austin Wells

Several Clark Cougars were recognized for their outstanding play during the fall sports season. Topping the list is cross country junior runner Austin Wells who was named to the Express News Super Team for Cross Country as well as the Area Team.

From Clark volleyball the 27-5A All district 1st team includes Jenn Garrett and Marcella Arellano. Named to the 2nd team is Abigail Glosup and Nicole Rehm.

27-5A 1st team offense football honors went to Manny Menezes. 2nd team offense honors to Kweku Larbie, Brandon Yates, Blake DeHart and Alex Hunter. The 2nd team defense includes Logan Hanna, Tri-Rice Van Buren and Malcolm Eatman.

In addition to district honors, several Cougars were recognized on the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All State Teams. Achieving 1st Team honors for football: Mitchell Rummel and Logan Hanna. Second team honors went to Alex Hunter, Brian Socha, Dusty Wright and Ty Williams. Honorable mention went to Sean Campbell, Ryan Cover, Troy Ogletree, Blake DeHart and Manny Menezes. And in Cross Country Honorable Mention Academic All State honors went to Shantel Swift.

VOLLEYBALL SEASON ENDS DRAMATICALLY

Thanks, seniors.

The Clark Cougars varsity volleyball team bowed out of the playoffs wth a tough match against defending regional champion CC King in first round action.  The Cougars finished the season at 24-15, an improvement from last season with plenty to build on.

PLAYOFFS!!??

The various scenarios for rounding out the rest of the 27-5A football playoff picture have been outlined in Thursday’s Express News. With two games left Clark is definitely in with two wins, but may only need one.  The challenge starts with Holmes on Friday at Gustafson Stadium and concludes with O’Connor November 4th in the annual Black Out game at Farris.

For Clark volleyball the playoffs begin on November 1st in Floresville with a game against Corpus Christi King.
