#6 EAST CENTRAL STINGS COUGARS

With what seemed like the entire East Central community watching, the Hornets defeated the Clark Cougars volleyball team in the first round of the 2009 5A playoffs. The Cougars scored the first point of the match but that would be their only lead, falling 14-25, 17-25 and 16-25. This was the 25th straight year the Cougars have made it to the playoffs. Special recognition goes to this year’s Seniors – Vanessa Casanova, Claire Webster, Katlin Mazzocco, Kayla Jarzombek, Liz Bergman and Stephanie Peña. Congratulations, you’ll be missed and good luck next year.

VOLLEYBALL STARTS PLAYOFF SEASON

For the past 24 years, the Clark Cougar varsity volleyball team has made it to the playoffs. Don’t miss what is to be a good one as Clark takes on #6 East Central at Blossom Athletic at 6pm. Last year, Clark won the match against the Hornets in a five game set. Support these girls who’ve fought hard to make it to this point and show up and be loud.
VARSITY VOLLEYBALL VICTORIOUS; READY FOR 2ND SEASON

In their final game of the regular season, the Clark Cougar volleyball team delivered a 3-0 shutout to the Holmes Huskies. Their regular season record ends at 20-17 and 12-4 in District 28-5A, a record that places them third in the district and headed to the playoffs.
Kayci Murphy led the Cougars with 14 assists, Katlin Mazzocco served 4 aces, Vanessa Casanova dug out 19 serves, Marcella Arellano had 10 kills and Tarah Wood owned the net with 4 blocks.
Next up for the ladies is a practice game this weekend and then playoffs will be November 2nd. Their opponent will be the runner up of a Friday evening playoff in District 27-5A.

TENNIS STILL THE KING – VOLLEYBALL IN PLAYOFFS

FRIDAY NIGHT; ANOTHER WIN FOR CLARK

The Clark Cougar varsity volleyball team gave Clark fans another Friday night win with a 3-0 blanking of Taft (25-11, 25-15, 25-18). With one regular season game left in the season, the Cougars tuned up for the playoffs against an overmatched Raider team. India Hartwell dominated the Raiders with 9 kills, 5 aces and 4 blocks with assistance from Kate Mazzocco who had 15. Vanessa Casanova protected the back line with a team high 17 digs. The ladies are now 19-17 on the year and 11-4 in district with one game left against Holmes before playoffs begin. WAY TO GO COOGS!

NEVER GIVE UP! VOLLEYBALL PERSEVERES AGAINST WARREN

After winning the first game in their match against Warren, 25-20, the Clark volleyball team dropped the next two games 15-25 & 16-25. Clark took game 4 by a decisive 25-8 score and won the tiebreaker in game 5, 15-12. Claire Webster had 13 kills and 3 blocked shots through the five games and India Hartwell had 8 kills and 2 blocked shots. Katlin Mazzocco had 31 assists while Adriana Christian had 11 and Vanessa Casanova had 18 digs and Marcella Arrellano had 14.
Clark has a 10-4 district record with two games remaining.
VOLLEYBALL SADDLES MUSTANGS

The Clark Cougar volleyball team continued their winning ways in District 28-5A with a 3-0 thrashing of Jay, 25-18, 25-13, and a 28-6 beat down. Katlin Mazzocco set up the Cougars with 18 assists, Vanessa Casanova served an ace and had 12 digs, Kacyi Murphy also served an ace, Jennifer Garrett took care of the net with 3 blocked shots and Claire Webster had 9 kills. The win gives the Cougars a 17-16 record on the year and a 9-3 district mark.
CLARK MANHANDLES MARSHALL

Clark volleyball continue to take care of business as they head through the second half of district play. The Cougars blanked Marshall 25-9, 25-21, 25-16 in a match up held at the O’Connor gym. Clark got 9 kills and 4 blocked shots from Claire Webster. Katlin Mazzocco added 22 assists and Vanessa Casanova had 13 digs in the game. This brings the Cougars’ district record to 8-3 with an overall record of 16-16. Up next – a Friday match with Jay at 7:00pm at O’Connor.
