With a 4-0 record, the Cougars made sure they were not one of the weekend upsets, blowing out the Marshall Rams in a 41-7 victory.  Both the offense and defense dominated early, allowing 2nd units for both to come in and see action with three minutes left in the first half.

Marshall received the opening kickoff and drove into Clark territory but Jacob Garcia made his second interception of the year to give the Cougars the ball on the Clark 18 early in the first quarter.  The Cougars would then drive the field, ending in a Ryan Jones 3 yd. rushing TD with 8:41 left in the 1st quarter.  It would be the first of two in the 1st quarter for Jones, as he ran again for a 7 yd. TD with 2:08 left in the quarter.

With the defense taking control of the Marshall offense, the Cougars would get the ball back and would score again early in the 2nd quarter, set up by a 20 yd. run by  Joey Cammer.  Hayden Greenbauer added another 28 yds. on the same drive to set up a 6 yd. TD by Greenbauer with 7:46 in the 2nd quarter.  On the following Marshall possession, Ryan Flournoy would get his 1st interception of the season along with a nice run after the catch.  Jones would be called on once again, this time for 26 yds. and a TD giving the Cougars a 27-0 lead in the 2nd quarter.  Andrew Mire picked off a Marshall pass in the end zone and Tevin Glasgow would add one more score before the half on a spectacular 63 yd. dash to the end zone, giving the Cougars a 34-0 lead at halftime.

COUGARS MOVING TO A NEW DISTRICT?

by on Sep.26, 2009, under Football

With the challenge of new schools, overcrowded districts and explosive growth all over the state of Texas, the UIL has released a study that would split football into two distinct divisions. In the proposal, which has not been adopted by the UIL, Clark would be in Division 1 District 15 with Jay, O’Connor, Southwest, Del Rio, Stevens, Taft and Warren.  The change would only affect football.

For more info, take a look at the UIL draft here.

CLARK VB RUBS HUSKIES NOSE IN IT

The Clark Cougars varsity volleyball team, led by a tenacious offense and an unforgiving defense, harassed the Holmes Huskies and walked away with a 3-0 match and victory.  Game 1 for the Cougars looked grim as they fell behind 3-7, 11-16 and 18-21 before stormin’ back for the win.  Senior Kate Mazzocco served an ace to tie the game at 21.  India Hartwell followed with a kill and the Cougars didn’t look back on their way to a 25-21 victory.

Game 2 was much easier as the Cougars put the Huskies away early 25-16.  Game 3 was tied at 19-19. The Cougars then went on a run that included another kill by Hartwell  followed immediately by a kill from Kayla Jarzombek and a tap by Claire Webster.  The final score was 25-20.

The Cougars are now 14-15 on the year and 6-2 at the end of the 1st half of district.

CLARK FB SOPHOMORES REMAIN UNDEFEATED

by on Sep.25, 2009, under Football

On another muddy field, the Clark Sophomore team won a hard fought battle with the Southwest Dragons, slaying them with a 26-6 victory. Clark struck first with quarterback Nick Coons (#7) scoring on a short quarterback sneak and Alex Etheridge (#24) returning an interception for another score. After a Southwest score, the Clark defense took over with a swarming defense in the second half, including a goal line stance that resulted in an end zone fumble recovery for a touchback. The offensive line also took over with key blocks to allow two long TD runs by Etheridge to ice the game.

Overall, another great team effort. Next up is the Jay Mustangs.

COUGARS JV WHIP UP ON RAMS

#21 Kweku Larbie runs for more

The Clark Cougar JV football team made lambs out of the Rams in football action.  Playing before fans at Farris Stadium, it started slow for the Cougars as they went three and out in their first possession.  The Rams then took over and drove to the Cougar 18 before the defense made a stand and stopped the Rams on downs.  It would be the Rams best last effort as the rest of the evening was all Cougars.  #46 Kenneth Harvey recovered a Marshall fumble with less than three minutes left in the 1st half.  A 19 yd Troy Ogletree pass to #83 Stephen Cram, followed by a 10 yd run by #40 Brian Socha set up the Cougars for a touchdown by Socha from 2 yds. just before the half .

In the third quarter, the Cougars would add six more with a 2 yd. rushing TD by #21 Kweku Larbie.  #41 Chris Miller also had a 41 yd. punt return in the 3rd to give the Cougars great field position.  #23 Deandre Holmes would score once more for Clark on a 25 yd. burst around the left side for the final TD, giving the Cougars the victory and a 4-1 record and a undefeated district record.  The final: Clark JV 18 – Marshall JV 0.

At Mike Robbins Field, the sophomores took on Southwest and dominated them, winning 26-6.  Congratulations, COOGS!
