COUGARS GRAB WIN

In the Northside tournament,  the Clark Cougar volleyball team chalked up its first win of the year with a victory over Lytle.  The Cougars won game one 25-17 followed by a 25-9 victory.  The taste of victory was short,  however, as the Cougars lost to Antonian and in close games against Cibolo Steele, the latter going three games in the set.

The Cougars continue tournament play today.  Go get ’em, Coogs!

COOGS START STRONG, FALL TO MAC

Arellano kills Mac in loss

Looking to get the season opening loss past them, the Clark Cougar volleyball team came out strong against MacArthur, reeling off 5 unanswered points in game 1.  They would go on to build a 17-5 lead and whipped the Brahmas 25-10 for the win.  Mac attacked after that, however, winning games two (21-25), three (13-25) and four (21-25) and giving the Coogs their second loss of the year.

Marcella Arellano recorded 15 kills and 11 digs with help from Abigail Glosup who served up 11 assists.  The Cougars play this weekend in the Northside tournament.

RUNNERS RECOGNIZED

Two Clark Cross Country Athletes received recognition from the website TXrunning.com. In District IV-5A Cross Country Previews, Austin Wells, sophomore, was recognized as a player to watch for the boys and Shantel Swift, Junior, was recognized as a player to watch for the girls. Congratulations to these mighty fast Clark Cougars! The link to the website .

Which reminds us: Cross Country practice is underway! Come join the team as they prepare for their first meet on September 4th. You do not need to be in the Cross Country class in order to participate, but must like early mornings! Come on out and see if you’ve got what it takes. CHARGERS DEFEAT COUGARS

The Clark Cougars volleyball team lost their first match of the season, 0-3, playing against the #1 ranked Churchill Chargers at Paul Taylor.  The Cougars lost 15-25, 15-25 and 13-25 in the match.  It was the 9th straight loss to Churchill by Clark.  Marcella Arellano delivered 7 kills in the match and Kayci Murphy and Abigail Glosup each had 7 assists in the effort.  You can read more about the match in the Express News.

The Cougars regroup to face another NEISD foe, MacArthur on Wednesday at 7pm.

GAME DAY!

Before the fall school bell rings, the Clark Cougars will head to the courts and fields, kicking off the 2010 athletic schedule.  Coach Kristen Daniell and the varsity volleyball girls take on the Churchill Chargers at 5:30pm at Paul Taylor field house. The Chargers are ranked #1 in the Express News preseason poll.

At Clark, the football teams start fall practice.  First year head coach Steven McGhee begins a new era with a relatively young roster and players returning from a 13-1 season in key areas.

Finally, season ticket sales for the varsity football season go on sale at the cafeteria on campus at 6pm.

IT”S GAME TIME IN CLARK, TEXAS!  Go Cougars!

SMALL BALL

The Clark Texas Football Club announces it’s 9th Annual Golf Tournament.  More information and an entry form can be downloaded here.  This year’s tournament is August 14 and is sure to be just as fun as the past few years.

CTFC is a charitable organization made up of former Clark players and coaches.  Each year, they give a scholarship to a deserving football player.  This year’s recipient was Joe Vasquez who was awarded with $3000 for college.

The scholarship was renamed the Lloyd Alexander scholarship in honor of Coach A and his contributions to the program.

“THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS” SHINE ON CLARK AGAIN

San Antonio’s “Thursday Night Lights” high school football showcase on KMYS-TV will kick off its 2010 season with the Gucci Bowl.  The Clark – Churchill game on August 26th will once again set the ball rolling for a ten game slate of high school football. Three other Northside School District teams will also be featured in games this season: new school Brennan as it opens district against Boerne Champion at the end of September (Brennan is opening this fall as a 4-A school) and then on November 4th the Brandeis vs Jay game will be televised from Farris Stadium. The Gucci Bowl will be telecast live from NEISD’s Heroes Stadium. Read all about the rest of the schedule in the Express News.

CLARK FOOTBALL PLAYERS MAKE ALL-STATE LIST

Congratulations to Clark Cougar varsity football players Ryan Jones, Peter Rozanski and Webb Williams for being selected to the 2010 Randy Rodgers Pre-Season All State Academic team.  RB Jones was named to the 2nd team and WR Rozanski and K Williams were Honorable Mentions.  Jones was the only San Antonio player on either 1st or 2nd team.

To be eligible for the honor, players must be seniors, nominated by their coach and counselor, have achieved at least a 3.0 GPA and scored at least 1000 on the SAT.  Players also had to submit a highlight tape.

Congratulations, Cougars! That’s using your heads.
