Congratulations to the Clark Cougar varsity football team for being named the 5ATexasfootball.com Region IV team of the week.  The website recognized the Cougars after the 49-7 pounding they handed Marshall and their 2-0 win streak.

The Cougars face the “brandies” this week in a district showdown.

CROSS COUNTRY ADDS DISTANCE & MEDALS

Cross Country Winners

Meade and Wells

Wet grounds made for challenging races today at the UTSA Invitational Cross Country meet, held at Brooks City Base.  Sophomore Austin Wells led the Varsity Boys, placing 7th in a fast 15:49.  Junior Aidan Pierce finished next in 17:54, followed by two freshman, Nicholas Moseley 19:05 and Daniel Carcamo 19:11, then sophomore Harry MacTough 19;13 and junior Mark Pena 19:15.

Senior Glynnis Meade and junior Shantel Swift ran in the Girls Gold division, which for the first time was a 5k (3.1 miles) like the boys.  Glyn finished 9th in 19:18 and Shantel was 11th in 19:26, just missing out on a medal.   The remaining Varsity Girls ran in the 5A 2 mile race – freshman Amanda De La Fuente in 13:46, senior Katherine Ritchie in 13:55 and sophomore Valerie Vacek in 14:23.
Austin, Glynnis and Shantel have now met the National 5K Silver Standard of 16:30 / 19:45 – congratulations!

Junior Varsity participated in the Central Catholic Relays at Mission Country Park earlier in the week, actually passing a baton between the 3-member teams, girls each running 1.5 miles and boys 2 miles.  Next Saturday, all runners will be at the SAISD meet on the grounds of the San Antonio State School.

WHITE OUT

Cougars vs. Broncos next week

The Clark Athletic Booster club is selling White Out shirts for the Brandeis game on Sept. 25th.

$5 TShirts will be sold this week during lunch @ the Booster Spirit Sales table outside the cafeteria. The Whiteout shirts will also be sold at the Brandeis game.  Get yours today and White Out the Broncos!

COUGARS UNLOAD ON RAMS

Jones shreds the Marshall "D"

It was another lopsided defeat by the Clark Cougars varsity football team over the Marshall Rams in a 49-7 beat down at Farris Stadium.  Coach Steve McGhee made sure several reserve players saw action in the second half and they scored 14 points and kept the Rams to 2 total rushing yards for the half.

Among the highlights:

  • Ryan Jones’ prolific night rushing
  • Deandre Holmes 2 TDs
  • Josh Kern to Austin Wise – twice –  one for TD
  • Kern to Jeremy Harris setting up a score
  • A STIFLING defensive effort including two fumble recoveries
  • Alex Ethridge and Brian Socha TDs
  • Ansley Benjamin LIGHTING UP a Ram returner

COUGARS CUT FALCONS’ WINGS

Arellano a force at the net

The Clark Cougars volleyball team shot down Stevens in three straight games  for their 3rd consecutive District 27-5A win.  While each game became a little tougher (25-17, 25-21, 25-22), the Cougars held on to raise their district record to 5-1 and their overall record to 13-15.

Kayci Murphy served up to aces and had 18 assists while Marcella Arellano had 12 kills and 11 digs, bringing her total kills this year to over 240.

The ladies next match is a non-district set against Steele Friday.

Way to go COOGS!

P.O.W. FOR PATINO

Express News Player of the Week

Patino manhandles Taft offense

Congratulations to Clark Cougar varsity football player Kris Patino, who earned Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Express News.  Patino helped lead a unit who shutout the Taft Raiders in a 10-0 victory in the Cougars first district game.

The last time Clark blanked Taft was 1989, a few years before the senior class was born.

CROSS COUNTRY TURNS INTO ROADIES

Meade and Swift lead pack

Wet weather this week moved the NEISD Cross Country meet on Saturday, Sept 11th to Blossom Athletic Complex, which meant running through the parking lots and surrounding streets with the finish in Comalander Stadium.  It was another big meet, with 28 girls teams and 33 boys teams competing, including many from NISD and NEISD.  Top 10 finishers for the girls were Glynnis Meade, 2nd place (12:03.6) and Shantel Swift, 7th place (12:17.2), followed by Katherine Ritchie (13:45), Amanda De La Fuente (13:45), Valerie Vacek (14:28), Catherine Seifert (14:57) and Lauren Porter (15:07).  Brandeis took the 1st place girls team spot, with Clark the next NISD team, placing 6th.

Roadwork for Austin Wells

Austin Wells placed 3rd overall for the boys (16:48.9), with Aidan Pierce next (19:56), then Harry MacTough (20:16), Nicholas Moseley (20:18), Tyrell Lewis (20:19), and Daniel Carcomo (20:40).  Both courses were slightly longer than the expected 2 and 3 miles.

VOLLEYBALL ROLLS ON

Cougars win again!

The Clark Cougar volleyball team continued their winning ways with a 3-1 victory over the Warren Warriors in District 27-5A play.  Tarah Wood delivered 10 kills in the match followed by Jennifer Garrett with 9.

The win moves the Cougars into a tie for 2nd place in the district race with a 4-1 record and 12-15 overall.

DEFENSE GETS SHUTOUT, COUGARS GET “W”

Jones leads Cougars to victory

Following a tough outing against Alamo Heights, the Clark Cougar defense stepped up and shut down a Taft offense that scored 35 points the week before, giving Clark a 10-0 win over the Raiders.

The first quarter ended 0-0 with the Cougars driving and Deandre Holmes converting a 4th and 1 with :33 seconds to go.  The drive would continue into  the 2nd quarter but stalled.

With 6:27 left in the half, Josh Kern set up the Cougars first score of the evening with a 42 yd. bootleg run giving the Cougars the ball on the 6 yd. line.  Webb Williams made a 26 yd. field goal giving the Cougars a 3-0 lead at the half.

The 2nd half began the same way as the first half went for Taft – with three plays and a punt.  Peter Rozanski had a tackle for a loss on second down of the Taft possession to put them in a hole.
