THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, DIFFERENT GAME

by on Jun.21, 2012, under Football

Time Warner Channel 7

For the fourth consecutive year, you can watch the Clark Cougars on TV on KMYS-TV “my35″‘s “Thursday Night Lights” broadcast.  Unlike the previous three years, however, it won’t be against Churchill in the Gucci Bowl. Clark’s appearance will be the following Thursday, September 6th, against Alamo Heights.  In fact, every NISD school will be shown over the season except one – O’Connor.  Sources claim there was only room for the Big Cats…

You can see the full schedule here.

CLARK TEXAS FOOTBALL CLUB AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS

by on May.28, 2012, under Alumni, Football

Kweku Larbie

Roger Lamar

In the immortal words of Super Dave, “it’s a great day to be a Clark Cougar”.  Recently, before the assemblage of graduating seniors and the 2012 Cougar Football team, the CTFC handed out the 10th Lloyd Alexander Scholarship to Kweku Larbie and the 1st ever David Dalkowitz Scholarship to Roger Lamar.  It is the first year we have been able to award two scholarship (mostly due to the generosity of George Gaiser Jr ’83, who you know will get at least one Shameless Plug of the Week this season for his company, BUILDEM Construction).

Larbie will attend Alabama State this fall and Lamar has signed up at Incarnate Word.  This makes our 10th and 11th scholarships awarded as we set to turn a decade old this year and turn our sights on growing the CTFC and its scholarships over the coming years.

Congratulations to Kweku and Roger! Remember, Tradition Never Graduates!

JUNIORS STUN SENIORS IN POWDER PUFF

by on Apr.26, 2012, under Football

Flournoy turns on jets

The Junior girls sped past the Senior girls in the annual Powder Puff game this year, benefitting Project Graduation, three TDs to two.  The Juniors took an early two touchdown lead, including a 55 yard sprint to the end zone from Sara Flournoy on the 2nd play of the game.  The Seniors kept it close after a slow start but could not overcome the Junior’s speed.

Seniors had won the previous two years.  And – let’s say it all together – the cheerleaders were still ugly.

by on Feb.01, 2012, under Football, Soccer

Yates - Saldaña - Kern

Three varsity Clark Cougar student athletes committed to play at the next level at the 2012 Signing Day ceremonies at Clark High School.  QB Josh Kern and WR Brandon Yates from football and Briana Saldaña from soccer all made their college plans official in front of coaches, family and friends.

Josh Kern, recruited early on by the University of Arizona and others, will be playing for new head coach Rich Rodriguez and the Wildcats this fall.  Brandon Yates’ fans will be able to watch him locally as he goes on the field for The University of the Incarnate Word and Briana Saldaña, after visiting LSU and Arizona State, will tear through opponents as a Concordia Tornado.

Josh is the son of Tres and Pam Kern.  Brandon is the son of Rhonda Brockett.  Both were coached by AD/Head Coach Steve McGhee.  Briana is the daughter of Arturo and Rae Saldaña and coached by Diana Driggers.

Congrats to these Clark Cougars!

HEARTBREAK

by on Nov.05, 2011, under Football

#46 Evan Meyer

In the last thirty years of Clark football, since 1981, the Cougars have only missed the playoffs for two consecutive years once – 1999 and 2000. Unfortunately, history may repeat itself as Clark lost to the O’Connor Panthers 31-8 in a season-ending shocker. The Cougars must now hope for a Taft victory over Stevens to claim the final playoff position.

To the players and especially the seniors, thanks for your hard work and dedication to Clark.  You’ve given us some great memories and you’ll certainly be missed.  We’re very proud of you.  Although it may not feel like it now, don’t ever forget; “…it’s a good day to be a Clark Cougar…”
