Cougars Rain on Rams’ Homecoming Parade
by Clark Sports Fan on Oct.30, 2013, under Football
Hey Cougar fans – sorry for such a delayed posting!!! Your Clark Cougars took on the Rams from Marshall last Friday on a perfect night for Texas football. It may have been Marshall’s Homecoming, but it was definitely Clark’s night. Your Cougars scored through the air, on the ground, and defensively!! R’mani Bettis started off the scoring on a 40-yard pass from Trenton Ford early in the second quarter. Near the end of the third quarter, Sam Carter stripped the ball from a Ram running back, and took it 58 yards for the second touchdown of the night. After the Rams managed their only touchdown of the evening, the Cougars’ own Brandon Valle scored on a 5-yard run to seal the victory. Nick Gonsalves was perfect on PATs, and the Cougars had themselves a 21-7 victory. The Clark defense was tough again, causing the Rams to turnover the ball three times. The Cougars take their 4-2 District record back to Farris this Friday when they host Huskies from Holmes.
Clark Football: Jay Tricks, but Clark Treats
by Clark Sports Fan on Oct.18, 2013, under Football
Your Clark Cougars hosted the Mustangs from Jay at Farris Stadium last night. Clark got on the board early on a 73-yard run by Senior Brandon Valle in the opening minutes. Valle added another rushing touchdown in the first quarter to give the Cougs an early 14-0 lead. Jay, using some well-timed trick plays, finally got on the board, and posted a second touchdown to even the score before the end of the first quarter. Clark took a 20-14 lead into the locker room at halftime on a third touchdown run from Valle. After a fourth quarter score by the Mustangs, Clark was down 21-20, but had the ball with just over 4 minutes in the game. On the shoulders of Valle, the Cougs were able to get into field goal range, and Senior Nick Gonsalves put the pigskin through the uprights with a minute and a half left on the clock. The Clark defense held their ground, forcing Jay to turn the ball over on downs to seal the game. The Cougars will take their 3-2 District record on the road next week to Marshall at Farris Stadium.
Cougars Lose to Broncos
by Clark Sports Fan on Oct.13, 2013, under Football
Your Clark Cougars faced the Broncos from Brandeis Friday night under the lights at Farris stadium. The Cougars got on the scoreboard first when Senior Nick Gonsalves nailed a season long 40-yard field goal through the uprights. The Cougar defense held the potent Bronco offense scoreless for the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Brandeis offense heated up, putting 21 points on the board. The Cougars added another field goal from Gonsalves, this time from 39 yards, before half time. Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring the Cougs could manage against the tough Broncos’ defense, with the final score being a 35-6 loss. The Cougars will take their 2-2 district record to Farris stadium on Thursday this week when they host the Mustangs from Jay.
Cougars Bring Home a Win for Homecoming
by Clark Sports Fan on Sep.28, 2013, under Football
It was Homecoming for your Clark Cougars last night at Gus Stadium, and what a homecoming it was. They faced the Raiders from Taft, who got on the board first. The teams were evenly matched, but the Cougars went into the locker room at the half with a 3 point lead thanks to a 27-yard field goal from Senior Nick Gonsalves as time expired. The game saw big plays from the line of scrimmage from Trenton Ford, Michael Coley, and William Young with great blocking from a strong offensive line. On the other side of the ball, the Cougar defense came up big throughout the game, capping off the evening with a huge stop on fourth down to seal the 24-21 victory. The Cougars have a bye next weekend, and will take their 2-1 District record to Farris stadium on October 11th where they will have their work cut out for them against the Broncos from Brandeis.
Cougar Football Gets First Win of the Season
by Clark Sports Fan on Sep.21, 2013, under Football
Your Cougars faced off against the Falcons from Stevens last night and came away with their first win of the season. What was expected to be a high scoring affair turned out to be a defensive battle. Clark got on the board first for the first time this season, and never trailed. Clark played a controlled ground game, rushing for 215 yards, with Senior Michael Coley leading the way with 94 of those yards, including a touchdown. The defense was at the top of their game, keeping the potent Falcon offense in check, and forcing them to punt or turn the ball over on downs most of the evening. The Cougars take their 1-1 District record into the Homecoming game next week against the Raiders from Taft.

Clark Loses to Alamo Heights
by Clark Sports Fan on Sep.07, 2013, under Football
Your Clark Cougars battled the Mules from Alamo Heights last night. It was a great night for football. Two early turnovers leading to touchdowns put the Coogs in a hole from which they could not climb out. There were bright spots on both offense, with Brandon Valle breaking into the secondary on several occasions; and on the defense, with the Coogs getting some takeaways of their own, including fumble recoveries by Zach Wood and Mitch Globe, and an interception by Will Buchman. Michael Coley scored an 80 yard touchdown on the last drive by Clark! The final score was Alamo Heights 47, Clark 34.
Next Saturday, your Clark Cougars will face the Panthers from O’Connor at Farris Stadium, 7pm
COUGARS FALL SHORT IN 30TH GUCCI BOWL
by Clark Sports Fan on Aug.30, 2013, under Football
Your Clark Cougars scored early, capitalizing on an interception by Cristian Arelllano, to get the jump on Churchill. After Churchill marched down the field to tie it. Brandon Valle ran the ensuing kick off back for a 91-yard touchdown. It looked to be a promising start to the tradition that is the Gucci Bowl.
Unfortunately, Clark wouldn’t add to their point total until the fourth quarter. It was too little, too late, as the Cougars fell to the Chargers 35-20.
The Cougars will look for their first win of the season when they face Alamo Heights next Friday, Sept 6th!
Clark and Reagan Battling the Heat in Scrimmage
by Clark Sports Fan on Aug.23, 2013, under Football
Your Clark Cougars battled the Rattlers from Reagan this morning in the annual pre-season scrimmage. The teams traded offensive and defensive sets under a blistering sun. The Cougar offense was able to move the ball with Trenton Ford and Chris Rollins sharing the quarterback duties. Defensively, with few exceptions, the Cougars were able to contain the Rattlers. The scrimmage was a good opportunity for the Cougars to see the fruits of their labor from Spring ball and the last few weeks of summer, along with discovering some areas that may need adjustments and improvements. Next up, your Cougars face the Chargers from Churchill in the 30th annual Gucci Bowl in Farris Stadium, August 29th at 7:00.
