The 26th Annual Gucci Bowl game between Clark and Churchill kicks off tonight at 7:00pm.  The annual Back in Black Pep Rally, sponsored but the Clark Athletic Booster Club, was a roaring success as this year’s varsity teams were introduced and the Booster Club presented Athletic Director/Head Coach Lloyd Alexander a check for $20,000.  Jay Tope of SASports.com hosted the event and made it a great night.

Other GUCCI BOWL tidbits:

  • The game will be televised LIVE on KMYS Channel 35 (7 Time Warner) in San Antonio.  It will also be LIVE on the internet.
  • At halftime,  fans can vote for the best band.  The band with the most votes at the end of the season will play in the Army All-American Bowl.

MATADORS OR DOOR MATS?

Junior RB Ryan Jones bulls past Matadors

Junior RB Ryan Jones bulls past Matadors

The season’s first football scrimmage involving the varsity, JV and freshman teams ended with mixed results, especially if you read local media reports.  As expected, the Clark varsity, who returned several starters from last year’s state semifinal team, looked good on defense along with some new faces in new places.  The offense also looked ready, scrimmaging without Senior quarterback Hayden Greenbauer, receiver Joe Vasquez, center Robert Chapman, OL Anker Wiggins as well as others.  Several starters from last year watched from the sideline as Sophomore QB Josh Kern guided the offense to a TD in a short game-like portion of the scrimmage with a pass to sophomore receiver Brandon Yates.  Both the JV and freshman teams also looked good in their portions of the scrimmage against the Seguin Matadors.

The Gazette-Enterprise of Seguin also watched the scrimmage.  Read what they had to say about it here.
