CLARK ALUM HELPS SECURE NCAA BID

Looking familiar in black and white, 2010 Clark grad Jason Brickman led his Long Island University Blackbirds into the NCAA Basketball Tournament on Wednesday night. Brickman, a freshman point guard, had 15 points including two critical free throws in the final seconds of overtime. Read about the game, seen on ESPN2, here.

BRICKMAN FLYING HIGH IN BROOKLYN

2008 Clark Cougar varsity football player Stephen Mery is a hero after he and a group of friends helped rescue a real estate agent who was being robbed. This Express News article describes how Mery and friends recognized things were not right when they pulled up next to the car with the woman and her assailant.
Stephen is currently a student at Texas A&M University.

COACH LLOYD ALEXANDER HONORED

Former students, players, parents, coaches and friends gathered together for a night of memories and thanks to honor Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach Lloyd Alexander at a casual retirement party organized by the Clark Athletic Booster Club.
Several former players, including the Clark Texas Football Club, were able to give thanks and share memories of the coach who began his career at Clark the first day the doors opened.
Dressed in a Hawaiian shirt, Coach A thanked those in attendance and spoke briefly to the crowd about his appreciation for the Clark community and especially the expectation by Clark athletes and fans to win, which, he said, made his job easier.
The highlight of the evening was an announcement by Jeff Schorr, the Clark Texas Football Club founder, that their annual scholarship (this year – $3000) would from here on out be named the Lloyd Alexander scholarship. This year’s recepient will be named in a few days.
The Clark Texas Football Club is an organization of former Clark coaches and players.

CLARK ALUM PLAYER OF YEAR

Celena Rendon, a 2006 graduate of Clark High School, was named the Philadelphia Sports Writer’s Association Player of the Year in the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference. The talented senior played for Clark and made All District twice as well as playing in the state semifinals two years in a row. Find out more about her on the Philadelphia University website.
PADRON LEAVES FOR TEXAS LUTHERAN

O’Connor Head Football Coach and longtime Clark assistant Danny Padron has announced he’ll be leaving the high school ranks to take the head coaching position at Texas Lutheran College in Seguin. Padron will take his son, Andy, along as an assistant. Andy is a former Clark quarterback. Padron has also added Cuero coach Mark Reeve to his TLU staff. Reeve was an assistant at Clark for nine years with Padron during the 1980’s.
Padron was the head baseball coach at Clark when the school opened in 1978 and became football offensive coordinator in 1981. He spent 20 years at Clark sandwiched around a brief stint at Judson before leaving to become head football coach and athletic director at O’Connor.

There are now three head coaching vacancies in NISD at Clark, O’Connor and Brennan (opening in August 2010).
FORMER COUGAR REVIVES SAN ANTONIO LANDMARK

Rad Weaver, a former Clark Cougar All City quarterback and UT baseball player, has turned his fortune into good. The 1994 Houston Astro draft pick, along with his wife Ashley, bought the historic Kiddie Park and have restored it for generations of San Antonians. Read more about their story here.
