BASEBALL HAS BLAST AGAINST STEVENS
by Fan4Clark on Apr.15, 2011, under Baseball
Thursday night, Clark defeated Stevens 6-2 to remain in 1st place in District and is now assured of at least a share of the District Championship. The Falcons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning – but those were the last runs that Clark allowed. In the 2nd inning, Clark bats responded. Matt Cohen started off the inning with a single. Chris Werland moved Cohen to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt. Robert Martin stepped into the batters box and with a 1 ball, 2 strike count, hit a home run over the left field fence – scoring himself and Cohen. Next up was Ed Moore who hit a blooper between the pitcher and 2nd baseman and he beat out the throw to 1st base. Ryan Skowronski stepped into the box and hit to the 3rd baseman, who overthrew 1st base in trying to get Skowronski out. Moore was easily able to round the bases home to score and Skowronski also managed to get home on the errant throw. A very exciting 2nd inning of play for the Cougars with 4 runs scored. In the 3rd inning, Braden Mattson hit a bomb deep over the left field fence scoring another Cougar run. In the 5th inning, Hunter McFall got on a base with a single and then Chad Dullnig’s double to the left field fence scored him from 1st, adding a bit of insurance to the game with a score of 6-2. On the mound for the Cougars was Chris Werland who got the win with 5 innings pitched. Cohen came to the mound to pitch the 6th & 7th innings, getting 6 quick outs, recording 5 strike-outs. It was a great evening to watch the Cougars play baseball. The stands were full of fans as the boys continue their quest for District. The Express News was on hand and Lorne Chan has more here on Mattson’s amazing 3rd inning blast.
Next up for the Cougars is an April 21st game at 7:30pm at NS # 2 vs Holmes. With a win that night, Clark will become 2011 District 27-5a Champs – so come cheer on the boys!
