CALLING ALL SWIMMERS!

Tryouts for the 2009-2010 Clark Cougar swim team will be held the week of August 10-14 at the Colonies House pool – that’s across from Colonies North Elementary School. The tryouts will last from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and swimmers should plan on attending all five days.
And Don’t Forget: physicals must be on file with Clark trainers before trying-out! Good Luck Coogs!
SPRING ATHLETES HONORED

The area’s best in spring sports as named by the Express News includes some outstanding athletes from Clark as do the All District squads for softball and baseball.
In softball, Christina Rodriguez made the paper’s Super Team. In her senior season the Clark catcher hit .485 and was a unanimous All District selection, she will take her game to the next level at St. Mary’s University next year. Rodriguez was also selected to the Class 5A team for the area. Other softball players named to the 1st team All-District squad are Megan Aragones and Henessey Soto, both sophomore pitchers. On the All-District 2nd team is freshman Britney Ramos, sophomore Megan Martinez and junior Rochelle Nash.
In baseball, Cougar pitcher Carl O’Neal was named to the Class 5A team and was a unanimous selection for the 28-5A 1st team All-District squad. O’Neal will play ball at St. Mary’s University next year. Also named 1st Team All District are senior Joseph Ybarra and sophomore Jason Cervantes – both unanimous selections, senior Trey Doebbler and sophomore catcher Braden Mattson. Making All-District 2nd team is junior pitcher Vince Salazar.
In golf, junior Hunter Gathright was named to the All-Area team.

CLARK PRESEASON FAVORITES IN 28-5A

Clark has been pegged as the favorite to take the District 28-5A title this year by at least two Texas football prognosticators. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine ranks the Cougars at #16 in its statewide preseason poll and tops in the district. Texas Football joins the website 5ATexasfootball.com in predicting an offensive MVP season for quarterback Hayden Greenbauer. While 5ATexasfootball.com has the Cougars at #25 in its preseason poll, the website expects a first place finish in the district race. 5A Texasfootball.com also predicts junior running back Ryan Jones will be 28-5A’s Newcomer of the Year.
BASEBALL SUPER PLAYERS

Several Clark Varsity Baseball Players have been recognized by the baseball website, SanAntonio5ABaseball.com. The site’s 2009 All San Antonio Super Team includes pitchers Carl O’Neal & Vincent Salazar, catcher Braden Mattson, outfielder Hunter McFall, and designated hitter Joseph Ybarra. St Mary’s University bound Carl O’Neal was also a runner up for MVP. The Cougars advanced to the second round of the 2009 playoffs and they graduate only 3 players from this year’s team.

FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETS SALE DATE

Mark your calendars for August 10th at 6:00 p.m. That’s when the 2009 Clark Cougar football season tickets go on sale. You can pick your seats for viewing another exciting season of Cougar football as the defending Region 4 Champions and State Semi-Finalists return to the gridiron. NISD representatives will be on hand in the Clark cafeteria to sell the 9 game ticket package which goes for $54 per seat. Eight of the nine games will be played at Dub Farris Stadium with the one remaining game to be played at Gus. The game at Gus is September 18th against Stevens and will actually be the Clark Homecoming game.
The only regular season game not in the package is the September 4th match up against Alamo Heights at their field.
So pass the word to friends and neighbors and come on out to Clark on August 10th! GO COOGS!
SOFTBALL SEASON ENDS

After advancing to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in school history, the Clark softball team lost to Austin Westlake 6-0 on Friday at NorthEast Field.
Congratulations ladies on a great season! May the ’10 season be even better!
SOFTBALL SEND OFF

It’s Round Two of the playoffs and Clark Cougar family and fans are asked to be at the school softball field at 5:15 on Friday to show support as the Softball team heads out to beat Westlake. The one game playoff will be at Northeast Field West on Judson Road about 3 miles inside Loop 1604. Game time is 7:00. The meeting place for the send off at Clark is the parking lot behind Lockehill Elementary and University Methodist Church. GO COOGS!
BASEBALL SEND OFF TO VICTORY

Clark Baseball families, friends and fans are asked to be at Clark at 5:15 on Thursday to send the team off to their first round playoff game against South San. Be there and show your support! Game time is 7:30 at South San.
SOFTBALL: CLARK vs WESTLAKE

The Cougars move into the second round of the playoffs for the first time in school history on Friday, May 15th against Westlake. While Clark was busy defeating Corpus Christi King over the weekend, the Chaps had a couple of one run wins over New Braunfels to advance. For Westlake, this is just the second time in school history to advance to the second round of the softball playoffs. The one game Region IV Area playoff will be held at the North East Softball Complex at 14800 Judson Road — three miles inside Loop 1604 at Wood Middle School — on the West Field.

BASEBALL FINISHES SEASON WITH WIN; PLAYOFFS NEXT

Waiting an extra week to finish the regular season didn’t hurt the Clark baseball team. The Cougars jumped on the Huskies in the first with two runs, added three more in the third off a Trey Doebbler home run by with two on and took the game against Holmes by a score of 8-2. Braden Mattson also homered in the sixth with one on. After early predictions it would be a so-so season for the Cougars, Clark finishes in 2nd place in District 28-5A and heads into the Bi-District round of the playoffs next week.
