Socha scores, Guido and O-line make it easy for him

Socha scores; Guido, O-line make it easy for him

Scores by both the offense and defense helped give the Clark Cougar JV football team another victory, this time against the O’Connor Panthers. Brian Socha started the scoring, shredding the defense the length of the field before taking it in for a 4 yd. rushing TD.
On the defensive side of the ball, Chris Miller scooped up a Panther fumble and returned it for 52 yds. for a TD. Deandre Holmes added another rushing TD in the third quarter and Socha added a 61 yd. burst through the heart of the O’Connor defense for the final score in the 4th quarter. Tri-rice Van Buren must be mentioned for his acrobatic one handed reception that helped set up Holmes’ TD. The final for the 6-1 Cougars: 26-8. O’Connor’s lone touchdown came in the final 11 seconds of the game.
The sophomore team blanked the Panthers and remain undefeated. Their score was 26-0.

Cougars #1 in San Antonio

Cougars #1 in San Antonio

The Clark Cougars varsity football team sits atop the latest Express News rankings this week.  With a 6-0 record, the Cougars rank above #2 Madison, #3 Southwest and #4 Reagan.  Brandeis cracks the rankings for the first time ever at #10.  5ATexasFootball.com has the Cougars at #21 in the state this week, and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has Clark at #11.

In the Texas Top Ten A.P. poll, Clark received 3 votes, the only San Antonio school recognized.  The MaxPreps computer ranking has Clark at #32 in 5A.  Fans remember the last time Clark was ranked #1 in the city – last season 4 days before playing the Warren Warriors and suffering their first loss of the 2008 season.

The Cougars prepare for O’Connor, always a tough battle, this week.

Glasgow avoids defense, scores TD

Glasgow avoids defense, scores TD

Web site 5ATexasFootball.com has released their playoff predictions for the state.  For District 28-5A, they have Clark, Stevens, Brandeis and Taft making the playoffs.  That’s an interesting scenario where Clark would end up being a Division II playoff team.  Other teams in that division, projected (GUESSED) by the site, include a 1st round matchup with Corpus Christi Carroll, and possible other match ups with Pflugerville, Smithson Valley and Los Fresnos.

This, my friends, is what high school football is all about…talking about what ifs.  Enjoy!
