Clark Swim

Cougars advance to regionals

Clark swimmers brought their “A” game to the Northside Natatorium on Saturday, January 30th for 28-5A District Swim Championships.  Arriving very early on that morning, Clark Cougars were ready to demonstrate what they had been working for since the first day of practice in August.

The day began with preliminary competition from 9 am – 1 pm, and the top 8 finishers in each event returned at 5 pm to warm-up for the 6:00 pm finals.   All 6 Clark relay teams returned for the finals and 29 lanes in the individual events were occupied by a Clark Cougar. At the end of finals, the Clark girls earned a 3rd place district finish, and Clark boys placed 4th.  This accomplishment was achieved in one of the most competitive Northside swim seasons.  Coach Tony Plummer said, “In our first team meeting, I alluded to the increased competition at the District level.  We all witnessed that on Saturday.  I want everyone to know how proud I am of the kids.  They never quit.  They never counted themselves out of any race.  That’s character and that will stay with them forever.” (continue reading…)

UIL REALIGNS; SAME OL’ FOR CLARK

by on Feb.01, 2010, under Basketball, Football

UIL

Nothing new for Clark

The bi-annual district realignments were released by the UIL today and for Clark, it’s more of the same.  All Northside high schools remain in the same district for football and basketball, with the exception of the newest high school, Brennan, which will open as a 4A school in the fall of this year.

You will, however, have to buy new shirts, etc. from the Booster Club due to a number “realignment”.  The current district Clark is in, District 28, will now be District 27.  The same old foes (O’Connor, Stevens, Warren, Brandeis, Holmes, Jay, Taft and Marshall) remain the same.

No other major changes appear for San Antonio area teams although NEISD realigned slightly, allowing teams like Madison and Reagan to add an additional non-district contest.  Smithson Valley dropped to 4A.  All Austin schools (including Westlake) moved out of the region and into Region 2.  The complete lists can be found at the UIL Website.

SOCCER RECEIVING THE LOVE

ESPN Rise

Clark ranked nationally

Thanks to a near perfect record, a tough preseason schedule and the potential for a deep playoff run, the Clark boys varsity soccer team continues to draw national attention.  ESPN’s RISE, a division recognizing high school athletics, has Clark ranked #10 in Texas this week, up one spot from last week, and at #47 nationally.  The national ranking is up three spots from their debut ranking at #50 a week ago.

The Express News also has the Cougars at #2, which technically makes them #1 in 5A since Boerne Champion is ranked above them.

Congratulations and keep it going!

DISTRICT REALIGNMENTS TO BE TELEVISED

by on Jan.26, 2010, under Basketball, Football

Fox Sports Southwest

FoxSportsSouthwest.com

In a state obsessed with High School athletics (not that there’s anything wrong with that), FoxSports Southwest will televise the realignment announcements live next Monday.  While its effect should have little impact on Clark athletics, it still might be fun to watch what’s going on at the UIL and what districts will look like for the  next two years.

Here is the official press release from Fox: (continue reading…)
