CLARK NAMES NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

by on Feb.10, 2010, under Football

Steven McGhee

McGhee named Head Coach

Steven McGhee, Clark class of ’88, has been named to succeed Lloyd Alexander as the Cougar’s Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach.  McGhee has served as a Football Coordinator and Assistant Coach at Clark for the past 8 years. Prior to that  he coached at O’Connor, Reagan and was a member of the Roosevelt staff that won the 5A state championship in 1995.

As a student in the late ’80’s McGhee played football at Clark and was named to the All State team as a tight end in 1987. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his Masters from Texas A&M Kingsville. He and his wife Christine have three children.

Principal Stanley Laing made the announcement and commented about the promotion from within the Clark family, “Congratulations to Steve McGhee as our new head football coach and athletic coordinator. Coach McGhee is replacing Coach Alexander, who is retiring at the end of this school year. The success in all our athletic programs is no secret. A lot of that has to do with the consistency in our athletic program over the years and coaches committed to developing our students through the spirit of competition along with demanding successful student learning in the classroom. Under Coach McGhee’s direction, that will continue.”

More to come…

Also, NISD has announced that Defensive Coordinator David Malesky of O’Connor will take Danny Padron’s place as the AC/HC at O’Connor.

GIRLS WIN; NEED WIN AND LOSS

by on Feb.07, 2010, under Basketball

Carolyn Chavana

The Clark Cougars girls basketball team took one more step to making the playoffs with a win over Taft.  It took a hard-fought victory over the Taft Lady Raiders, coming from a 4 point deficit at halftime to pull ahead in the 3rd and 4th quarters for the 44-35 win. With one game remaining against Holmes, the Cougars are at 20-13 overall, 8-7 in district.

A win over Holmes Tuesday night and a Stevens loss against O’Connor would give the Cougars a chance to make the playoffs with a win in a “play in” game against the Falcons.  GO COOGS!
