YOUR HELP NEEDED AND REQUESTED

by on May.09, 2011, under Uncategorized

As you may or may not know, private schools are proposing a change to Texas state law allowing private schools (who can recruit and choose their athletes) to compete on the same level as public schools.  The Texas Senate has already passed the law and it now moves to the house.

The Texas High School Coaches Association feels that this gives private schools an overwhelming advantage.  To find out more information and ways to contact your representative, please continue reading.

BASEBALL HISTORIC SEASON OVER

by on May.07, 2011, under Baseball

Clark Baseball’s Cinderella season comes to an end with a 3-7 loss to the Southwest Dragons

In a season where prognosticators said Clark Baseball would be 5th in District, had no pitching, and wouldn’t make the play-offs, the 2011 Cougar Baseball team proved them all wrong. Winning 15 of their 16 District games, Clark became 27 5a District champs for the second time in school history and set a new school record with 15 wins. Watching the team play throughout the season, we saw these players become a team – each of them contributing and picking up to help win games. Our bats were loud, our fielding was good and our pitching was far better than predicted. No one did it alone – everyone on the team contributed key plays to make this a special season. For the fans, most of us having watched these boys play together and against each other since they were in Little League, it was a special year – as we watched the team play for each other. They exhibited confidence and skills that propelled them to the District Championship and for that we are proud. (continue reading…)

BASEBALL PLAYS TODAY; DROPS ONE TO DRAGONS

by on May.07, 2011, under Baseball

Game 3 today at 2pm - NS #2

At Southwest Baseball Park, Clark experienced what they haven’t experienced in 52 days – a loss, falling to the Dragons in extra innings.   The Dragons went up 2-0 at the end of the 4th inning.    Clark came out in the 5th inning and scored 3 runs – Jason Cervantes (single), Hunter McFall (fielders choice) and Braden Mattson (single) and pitcher Trevor Settles was able to hold Southwest so the inning ended Clark 3, Southwest 2.

Southwest tied the game up in the bottom of the 6th inning.  In the top of the 7th inning, Mattson homered over left center field, giving Clark the lead.  Chad Dullnig followed with a double, but was stranded on 2nd base when the next 2 batters grounded out.  Southwest came back to score in the bottom of the 7th to put the game into extra innings.   (continue reading…)

COUGARS SLAY DRAGONS

by on May.05, 2011, under Baseball

Martin dives for win

Working their way to a “cardiac” Cougars title, Clark won their first playoff game like their last regular season game – in the bottom of the last inning.  Clark defeated Southwest 3-2.
It was a tight game throughout the night.  The game was scoreless coming into the bottom of the 5th inning.  Ed Moore walked after receiving 4 straight balls for a walk.   With two outs, Hunter McFall reached base on a full count walk.  Both runners advanced on a passed ball and were in scoring position for Braden Mattson, who hit a single that easily scored Moore, and by threatening to advance to second, he was able to get McFall home for the second run before being thrown out to end the inning.

COUGARS COME BACK TO END WITH WIN

by on Apr.30, 2011, under Baseball

The Clark Cougars finished off their district championship season with a spectacular win over O’Connor 4-3.  A large Cougar fan base showed up to cheer the 27-5A champions on.  It was an unusually quiet night for Cougar bats with only 3 hits in the first 6 innings of play.  Cougars scored first in the bottom of the 2nd inning.  With 2 outs, Ryan Skowronski walked, Jason Cervantes singled to advance Skowronski to 2nd and he scored on Hunter McFall’s single.
O’Connor came back in the top of the 3rd inning and scored 2 runs, and scored another run in the top of the 5th, to make the score O’Connor 3, Clark 1.  In the bottom of the 5th inning, Clark scored again when McFall – who reached base on a walk – came in on a bases loaded walk by Matt Cohen, bringing the score to O’Connor 3, Clark 2.  Clark held O’Connor scoreless in the 6th and 7th innings.  In the bottom of the 7th inning, with 2 outs, Cohen stepped into the batters box and battled to work a full count for a walk.  Cohen advanced to 2nd on a passed ball while Chris Werland was at bat.  With a 2 ball, 2 strike count, Werland singled to the gap scoring Cohen from 2nd to tie the game.  Werland made it to 2nd on a missed cut-off.  Robert Martin stepped into the batter’s box and on the first pitch hit a shot down the first base line that scored Werland to win the game.   (continue reading…)
